Harley Quinn Now Expected To Return In James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD; Production Set To Begin Later This Year

Forbes recently published an extensive report on the current status and potentially bright future of DC Films, and while some of what their story revealed wasn't particularly surprising (i.e. Jared Leto-led Joker projects being scrapped), they did share an unexpected detail about one of the franchise's biggest stars.

Their report claimed that Margot Robbie was not expected to reprise her role as Harley Quinn in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and suggested that her future in the DC Films universe was murky at best - although that was always subject to change based on the success or failure of Cathy Yan's upcoming Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

However, Forbes has since been able to obtain more information, and has provided a promising update which now reveals that Harley Quinn is indeed expected to return in the Gunn-directed sequel, suggesting that she is currently a part of the most recent draft of Gunn's script. They've also learned that production on the sequel will begin a lot sooner than anticipated.

"I have learned from sources close to production that in fact, the information about Harley Quinn being absent from the new Suicide Squad movie is no longer up to date -- she is indeed expected to appear in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which is expected to begin production later this year."

While an exact production start date wasn't given, it seems probable that it'll begin filming during the second half of the year - once Robbie wraps Birds of Prey - as it prepares for its August 6, 2021 release date.

Oh Yeah, I hope that they will also take Joker back but recasted either by Adrien Brody or James Franco.

Oh yeah and please recast Deadshot too.....Common will be excellent replacement!!!!

This is disappointing, because I wanted a whole new cast, other than Amanda Waller. It would even make sense if each movie had a whole new group of potential people who could die in it.

@BlackIceJoe - Yeah, Viola Davis as Waller is perfection.
