In celebration of Superman's 80th anniversary and the 1000th issue of DC's Action Comics, we've seen some pretty incredible commemorative art lately.

However, a lithograph from Alex Ross' team-up with SYFY WIRE might be the best yet. Ross, who is famous for his photorealistic take on superheroes, tried his hand at recreating the iconic cover of Superman's first comic book appearance: Action Comics #1.

Check it out below:

This lithograph captures the scene of the original cover, but the dark blue
colors completely change the mood. Superman's original suit is left mostly untouched, even though it looks like his red boots have been swapped out.

Ross has drawn Superman many times before and was a big influence on how
Warner Bros. marketed Justice League.

The litho is titled "More Powerful Than A Locomotive," and is the first piece of work from Alex Ross Art's collaboration with SYFY WIRE. Fans who want their own print can join the waitlist now.

@Forthas - if you are only interested in when MOS2 comes out & nothing else about Superman than you aren’t really a Superman fan

Not saying those who like DCEU Superman aren’t Superman fans but having no interest in Alex Ross remaking the cover to Action Comics #1 makes it seem like you aren’t a fan

@LEVITIKUZ - I have a bit of a problem with people on here who act like if you do not read or follow a comic book or its art...you don't have a right to comment. It is a weird kind of "fanboy" snobbery. I am not suggesting you are such a person, but your response is in that same tone.

It is not in any one of the ten commandments or in any of the laws in this country which says that to be a "fan" you must follow a comic or fawn over the art of comic illustrators. One can simply be a fan of a character through the visual medium of films. I come at the fandom through a childhood in which I collected hundreds of comic books, not so much for the art but for the stories...I was a child. I lost all of my comics when I moved (long story). But the movies have engaged me in a renewed fandom and have become more important. So the art has never been central to my experience

People on this site don't get to define who is or is not a "fan". No matter how hard they try. I define it for myself!

So thanks for the comment but it is quite meaningless to me.

@Forthas - I got zero issues with any of that

Just seems odd to say “I only interest in MOS2” on an article about Alex Ross Superman drawing you know

It’s even odder because movie studios take the weekends off so you should be expecting news about MoS2 this weekend at all especially since it’s Easter weekend

@LEVITIKUZ - This cover has always looked weird to me. It looks like Superman is smashing the car against the rock.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - yep. First time I saw it was in the old Alex Ross Mythology book. Great book, I’ve had it since the early 2000s. I recommend it if you don’t have it.
