It may not have the box office of the Avengers, or critial acclaim of TDK. But as a Reboot it did its job at delivering a superman for modern generation.

It's just sad that they have to sub divide so many times to get to a #1. Not the #1 movie, not the #1 Action Movie, not even the #1 of the summer, not the #1 super hero movie... not the #1 DC movie. The #1 Super hero movie remake ever.

@Moakynubs Yeah, exactly ! It's not trolling, it's not hating, it's rolling eyes at people spinning a disappointing BO result as a success.

1st the amazing spider-man is the most successful reboot with $752,216,557.

2nd man of steel is currently $586,806,000 so its roughly $160,000,000 short of the amazing spider-man.

3rd since when is x-men origins wolverine & thor reboots, you could of probably got away with saying captain america the first avenger was a reboot but not the two movies you mentioned.

@ OldGreg

the article has been changed since i last posted, like removing thor & x-men origins wolverine from the reboot list & replacing them with the incredible hulk.

yes its the most successful reboot in america but isn't worldwide gross more important, its planet earth not planet america.

Good question!

15ft tall hulk was cool but the TIH and Av Hulk is more realistic from the comics about 9ft.

Just as his appearance and personality have changed over the years, so has his height and weight. Here are some comparisons:
As Banner he is 5' 91/2" and 128lbs
As the Savage Hulk he was between 7' & 8' tall and weighed 1040-1400lbs.
As the grey Hulk he was 6' 6" tall and 900lbs
As the merged, intelligent Hulk he was 7' 6" and 1150lbs.

See: http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Hulk_(Robert_Bruce_Banner) for full details of differing Hulk personalities.

@Jollem,

I actually owned that Spider-Man - Superman crossover (bought it when it came out). Yes, I am that old, *sigh*

Beyond that, I think it's fair to say MoS is the highest-growing CBM reboot, at least in the US. That said, if they had waited a few more years with Spidey, I'd bet TASM would have surpassed MoS. Just a guess.

OX OFFICE UPDATE: Final numbers through July 7 have updated. Superman is kicking some iron backside, too!

'Man of Steel' has grossed domestically $271.1M. The international total now flies at $315.6M, bring the grand total to $586.7M.

The movie will be opening in a key market this Friday, Brasil. In August, Japan will open the movie, which is another key market.
Update from BoxOfficeMojo.com 7/8/2013

Noted previously, 'Man of Steel' is the highest performing superhero reboot movie ever, and has soared higher than 2006's 'Superman Returns.' Adding to the impressive slate of the movie's accomplishments, 'Man of Steel has also hammered on some other metal by beating the international box office for 'Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2.'

Absolutely makes Superman the most successful reboot. Regardless of many studios & box office analysts predicting a 550M – 600M run; MOS also had a higher than average chance of flopping. With the weight of future DC characters getting movies (other than Batman) MOS had a lot riding on its shoulders. Not only did it deliver the box office estimates in a little over 20 days, it hit the box office projections out of the park.

While you can make an argument for TASM being the most successful reboot I simply don’t feel Spidey belongs in the reboot category with 3 mega blockbusters within the past 10 years. To many non-comic book fans view it as just a continuation of the recent Rami trilogy even though the actors are different.
