I look at what is being done with the new Superman movie and, though there isn't much to see right now, I can't help but feel disappointed. All of these professional film makers never think to grab a panel of us fan boys in a room and find out exactly what it would take to bring life to the man of steel in a way that would transcend all that has been done before. So I started playing around with some ideas and THIS IS WHAT THE MODERN DAY SYMBOL SHOULD LOOK LIKE! I hope the people making this film have a chance to see it because
when I walk out of the next Superman movie I don't want to walk out and believe a man could fly I want to walk out and feel like I could fly then turn around and buy another ticket.

Good point but really look at that X-tremly busy suit they created for the new film. That alone makes me wanna barf. And they can't get something as simple as the color of the suit right? Really? This suit looks like he's been rolling around in the dirt or he washed it with blacks instead of colors. i think if they would just reach out to the FANS things would be different...better.

my opinion, fanboys on a panel is the wrong way to go. We all don't agree, and some of us don't want to think about how certain things won't translate to film (ie people whining about not having Hawkeye's 616 costume in the Avengers movie). movie makers, they know we are going to see a movie based on a comic book regardless and either rip on it (in which they can simply write us off as fanatical nerds) or we'll like (and it gives the stamp of approval in the nerd world). They are making a movie that will appeal to the masses. The costume design of MOS isn't bad. Yes it's darker, but generally, a guy running around in a bright red and blue bodysuit won't work anymore IMO. As long as it's still Superman in the sense that he fights for truth and justice, I'm fine (coming from an avid comic book fan). Keep the character the same, the way he looks isn't going to make or break the film.

I have felt the same way about the new "Man of Steel" but I agree with MarVell that most of us fan boys disagree most of the time because... I think Ben Afflack said it best in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" that " the internet gave us all a voice to speak our thoughts on a film but most of us use that voice to bitch about it". I have disagreed with a lot of things but I personally have high hopes for "Man of Steel" and hope that what we see right now isn't going to mess up the film as a whole. It's like how people were annoyed by the new bat-mobile and batman's new voice, but everybody looked passed that because the joker was amazing in "The Dark Knight. I personally thought that "The Dark Knight" and "Superman Returns" were really well done films but both didn't entertain me as well as Tim Burton's "Batman" or Richard Donner's "Superman"

Oh my God if filmmakers listened to fanboys, they'd kill themselves.

I can't help but ask, what is so disappointing about Man of Steel?

I actually like what I'm seeing coming from Man Of Steel, and the suit doesn't bother me at all.

It's just an "S". It's the least of our concerns.

Maybe we should at least wait and see what the trailer looks like before bashing it?

just a thought...

If you just took the people on this site and sat them in a room it would be a [frick]ing disaster. Like ellispart3 said, there were people wanting Hawkeye's classic uniform on screen for [frick] sake. How about Cap's original costume? People wanted that one too. Just because you are fan doesn't mean you know how to make movies. Unfortunately the reverse is also true. I think the more you see successful comic movies (i.e. Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men: FC) the more you will see quality directors asking for quality opinions. I don't think they make these movies without talking with folks who know more about the comics than any of us. Sometimes they listen to them and sometimes they don't.

Also, you are disappointed by MOS? Why? You haven't seen anything yet, not even a teaser trailer. I remember when Xmen: FC was about to come out and it was constantly slammed on this site. People whining and crying and they were proven completely wrong. Just slow down and wait and see. At least judge the damn movie from a trailer. Anything before that is just fanboy bullshit.

And here you all are! The idiots that will go buy a ticket no matter how horrible the film may be. It's your minimum wage they're after! Superman9859 you i'm so glad you took the time to leave this comment and read my short article. I am so thankful I got a chance to waste a small portion of your life, just think when this crap film is released you will pay to let these a-holes waste two more hours of that pathetic life of yours. ummmm feels good. And my S is [frick]ing awesome queer.

you mad bro? you wrote an editorial for people to read and give comment on. you're mad that everyone didn't see your ethereal view of superman films? some people don't like the new superman, some people love the way he looks. There is no teaser or trailer out to even get an idea of how the movie is going to look. To be honest, your version of the superman "S" isn't that good. the one they are using for the movie currently, it has more of a nostalgic look that throws back to the late 1940s. your's isn't a "modern day" version of how superman's "S" would look. with the jagged edges and harsh cuts, it seems more like the 1990s blue lightning superman "S". always be ready for a rebuttal dude.

First of all, it's not even an "S." It's Kryptonian (or Kryptonese if you are referencing the language) and it's a symbol which represents "hope." Second, @ellispart3 is right: don't get mad if your editorial is met with some criticism. If you get your feelings hurt easily, you probably should stay off the message boards, too. Third, he could fly around in a tuxedo made of turds for all I care. It's only a movie. You want real Supes? Pick up a comic book.

I prefer the MOS logo than the one created on here. This one looks like a logo reminiscent of the 90s (as someone already said), it doesn't look modern at all.

I had to get used to the suit, but I can live with it now. I don't dislike it, I probably even like it.

And as for getting the colors wrong... the photos we saw were all low res, most likely taken with cell phones. Knowing Zack Snyder and his love of special effects he probably has the suit a specific color in order to digitally alter it later during post to look closer to Superman's traditional colors.

From the ONLY studio pic released, it looked pretty fine to me. But it was mostly in the dark; we will have to wait for more pics *from the studio and/or a trailer until we can really judge it.

Story wise: everything seems fine.

Casting - My only issues are with Amy Adams and Lawrence Fishburne.

For the most part, its looking pretty good right now. More pros than cons IMO.

@ ADDICT - I like the shield you've designed mate, I can tell that's a Superman logo. I think the S-Shield in Man of Steel looks rancid. It feels too bloated and overweight and "not right", and yes, his suit does look like he's put it in the wrong coloured wash lol. Add to that, I look at Henry Cavill and I don't see Superman at all. Credit to you for having the balls to speak your mind in the form of an article about the film and not following the masses.
In my opinion - and I'm not trying to disrespect anyone as we all have our own opinions - I think a lot of people are pumped about this film simply because Zack Snyder's directing and they were such big fans of 300 (an ok if somewhat repetitive film) and Watchmen (the film where NOTHING happens). But this is also the guy who blemmished the big screen with an overblown affair called Sucker Punch. I have a feeling Man of Steel will be a good superhero film, but an "average" Superman film.

@ Superman9589 - Yeah, it's ok mate, but...nah, I prefer ADDICT's design.

I love how the comments have progressed into some serious banter on this subject. I just love this character and I hate that these movie studios keep ucking it up. Thats a lot of money wasted because they didn't take a minute to step back and say, what would it mean to the world if Superman showed up tomorrow? @Superman9859: thanks for your opinion and I actually do like the shield you posted. @RyKnow: thanks I'm glad you like it and i agree I dont think they're gonna capture the essence of this character in this version. I saw pics where he had a beard...A BEARD? The Shield for the new film looks cartoonish and old. I really feel they have failed us again. And Cavil looks better for the part of Ken in a Barbie movie.

ken from A Barbie film? What does that mean? Superman doesnt look overly rugged in the comics if thats what you're looking for, if not i'm baffed. As for your comment on the beard, had you seen photos of henry dressed as superman with a beard you'd have a slight reason to be apprehesive. As it stands we've seen him looking rough in his attire while having a beard which could mean anything. Was you the same when bale had a beard in begins?
ADDICT
ADDICT - 2/24/2012, 1:18 PM
who cares about past stories how about something original and new. it makes no sense that he grew a beard. what is he gonna use to cut it? he has short hair but he has a beard? dumb dumb dumb. I AM POSITIVE THIS MOVIE IS NEVER GETTING A TOMATO ON THE TOMATO METER UNLESS NOLAN TAKES OVER AS DIRECTOR! They should reboot the reboot.

@ADDICT
you're positive this movie will suck based on a beard, the color scheme of set pictures taken by camera phones, and the "S" on his chest?

You say you want something original and new..but don't change the color scheme of superman, and don't let him be seen with a beard, and make sure the "S" on his chest looks like the 90s emblem.

good luck.

@Superman9859
what do you mean? that was a response to Addict wanting something new and original. Yet his argument so far has been against something new and original. he's complained about the "busy" suit, the dark color scheme, the beard (at some point in the film), and the "S". All of these things would be a bit different, original, and or new when it comes to Superman on film.
i'm confused on how that's not valid? but hey whatever.
