Apparently Christopher Nolan Rejected A Marvel-Style Post Credits Scene For MAN OF STEEL

"A real movie wouldn't do that". Ouch! The Guardian have published their in-depth profile of Interstellar director Christopher Nolan, and that was his response when WB asked he and Zack Snyder to add a post-credit stinger to Man Of Steel. Click on for more..

Though Warner Bros. have always maintained that they are not setting out to ape Marvel's approach to establishing a connected movie universe with their DC projects, it seems they were interested in utilizing the post-credits stinger which has become a staple of Marvel Studios flicks over the years. According to The Guardian, WB were trying to convince Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and producer Chris Nolan to attach an after credits scene to that movie, as a way of setting up something else further down the line. Nolan's response was simply, "a real movie wouldn't do that", and the idea was scrapped. The Dark Knight trilogy director has spoken about his refusal to include these types of stingers in his movies before, stating that he believes a film should stand on its own -- with a solid beginning, middle and end -- even if sequels were eventually to follow. This is likely what he meant by that quote, though it's hard to imagine he won't come in for some backlash for it. Do you agree with his assessment? Or do you think he should get down from his high horse pronto? Sound off in the usual place.

"his refusal to include these types of stingers in his movies before, stating that he believes a film should stand on its own"

Clearly he doesn't get how Post credits scenes work, they are supposed to be little easter eggs at the end, even if a "real film" has it the film is still able to stand on its own.

Just to play devil's advocate, but the last scene of my favorite film in his trilogy, Batman Begins, ended JUST LIKE THAT. The Jim Gordan/Batman rooftop scene with the playing card.

What exactly is he saying? He doesn't agree with teasers/easter eggs?

What was this exactly?

Essentially a post-credits teaser, just put before the credits.

Ya know... that would be a valid argument if any of us had actually made real comments.
I think Nolan is old school though. I like the post credits scene and hope Zack follows suit.

Yeah... I hate all those "fake" movies that let you know they fit into a larger, well-thought-out narrative. And I'm pretty sure we can all agree that GOTG disqualified itself as a legitimate film once the talking duck showed up at the end.

*eye roll*
