Jon Hamm For Superman Rumor Debunked

Jon Hamm For Superman Rumor Debunked

Despite rumours to the contrary and rampant fan backing, the Mad Men actor will not be donning the red and blue in the upcoming Superman movie..

In July a site called ThinkMcFlyThink ran a story which suggested Jon Hamm might be in the running to play WB's new Superman. It was picked up and reported by most movie blog sites at the time. For some reason the same rumour resurfaced this week, even though there was no new information and it was still all sourced back to the old article from TMT(even though some sites ran the story as if it were fresh news).

Anyway, I guess this new surge in speculation caused word to reach Mr. Hamm(if it hadn't already) and he addressed and debunked the rumour this morning on "Live with Regis and Kelly" saying

"If that's something that the powers that be are thinking about, I hope they get in touch with me."

So there you go, no Super-Hamm for now!(sorry) At least that sounds like he would be interested IF he was contacted. All we know for certain regarding the somewhat controversial reboot is that Christopher Nolan will "Godfather" the project. It's believed that his brother Jonah could well end up in the directors chair, and that David Goyer also has a hand in it. Either way, it's unlikely WB has seriously considered anyone for the role at this early stage, although they may well have a few people in mind.

Thanks to The Playlist for the info, be sure to drop by and give the guys some CBM love!

Oh, well. A little disappointed but I'm sure it's for the best. Hopefully we get a Superman we've always wanted and deserve.

I'm glad...he's just a little too old IMO. You know who he would be idea for though? Lex Luthor!!! Great find ROR. :)

This doesn't debunk him playing Superman, it only proves that he hasn't been approached about it YET. They may still ask him (or they may not). I think he'd be great, but I'm sure whoever Nolan picks will be perfect.

Wasn't there just a story in which Hamm said he wasn't sure that he'd want to play Superman? Sounds to me like he's warming up to the idea...

for an athlete Mia Hamm is pretty hot.

btw @ror his name is spelled Jon, not John, just letting you know

Gawd Demmit! You yanks and your weird named spelling! Thanks for the heads up.

jBak, yes they COULD still ask him..just as they could still ask Jack Black! It debunks the rumour until that may happen.

@Ror, I understand that, I guess I just didn't know there was rumor that he'd already been approached. I clicked the article expecting to see that he was definitively NOT playing Superman, only to find that he seems MORE interested than before.

@ror it is spelled depending on how the parents name the kids. Like John and Jon and Sara and Sarah or Steven and Stephen, it all depends.

Agree with Josh, Jon Hamm for Lex. Actually, I am glad for this bit of news. I much prefer Hamm not be Superman.

Good! Looks a bit to old. Unless that fits the story style they are going for. Which I doubt.

I wouldn't mind him as a today's day and age experienced Superman instead of the youthfull origin story but as long as they get the right guy, i don't really care anymore.

I don't like him for Supes. He's just too old looking. I mean 40 is not old, especially in movie land, and many actors can pull off much younger roles. But I think this dude actually looks OLDRER than 40! He looks A "looks great for his age" 50 to me. Maybe Superman from TDKR, but nothing else.

Shaman@ thats where i am with all of this stuff. idc. there's too many rumors floating around out there for me to care anymore. The guy who plays superman will do just fine just like everyone else that came before him did just fine. same with batman. same with spider-man... Let's just get these movies out so we can enojy them! if we don't - then go read a comic.

Ror- Touché! And great suggestion actually :))

Now i sincerely hope no one on here that DOESN'T like Hamm for Supes, actually DIDN'T campaign to have Eckhart or Valley as Cap a while back. Cause all three are indeed in the same boat LMAO ;P

OdinsBeard- Tell you the truth, after the whole Cap ordeal, i find it hard to ever get as passionate about a fan cast ever again. At least to that extent. It just took to much out of me and made me grow up too much, too fast LOL So now i'll take whatever they feel is adequate, have myself a coke and a smile and just shut the [frick] up LMAO ;)

yep, just trust them. even tho they do make mistakes sometimes they make movies to pay their mortgages, it's their business. they want the movies to be good as much as we do. it's just up to us to show them what we want not by posting it in forums but by where we spend our money.

I do not, nor have I ever seen him as a believable 'Superman' or even a 'Clark Kent' for that matter. This is specific to his appearance alone of course..he just doesn't have the aplomb the character deserves.

I do however think that he'd make one heckova Phantom Stranger, though!

Mars, a rumour surfaced that he was in the running for Supes, then he went on a tv show and said he hadn't been contacted. Yes, he could be lying, yes they could have actually contacted him but as far as we KNOW that rumour is now debunked. Hell you could question every word that ever came from anyone in Hollywood's gob if you wanted to, but I think:

Jon Hamm says he hasn't been contacted by WB about playing Superman, but we all know how these things work, he might actually have been and just didn't want to say.

Is a bit long as an article title;)

Shaman, even though I wanted Valley to play Captain A, and will concede that they are probably in the same league age-wise (and I'd even go as far as to say that Valley looks older than Hamm), I really think that Valley suited that particular role more because he plays a great ex-military character (Boston Legal), has real life military experience and has a look (though older as earlier conceded) that is rugged and rough as Captain America should be. The dignified look that Hamm looks would work for a much older distinguished portrayal of the character.

Henry Cavill or James Caviezel then. Caviezel would make a f*cking bad ass Superman!!:D It would be awesome to see him fighting against the Darkseid. Gen. Zod, Metallo and Brainiac are my other choices as the villain. Lex is in the movie anyway so i dont count him!

Paul Bettany as Metallo, Michael Fassbender as Brainiac, Jude Law as Lex Luthor, Gerard Butler as Gen. Zod and Ron Perlman as Darkseid

CAVILL!

I'm very much warming up to Joe Manganiello now. At first, I didn't much care for his acting on True Blood, but I've gone back and rewatched his episodes, and I actually like him a lot. He played humble, down-to-earth, and honest effectively and I can also see him pulling off an angry and powerful Supes. I'm not completely sold on him, and it sucks that True Blood Season 4 doesn't return until next year so I don't have much more to judge him on. But, for now, he's one of my top potential candidates.
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 9/16/2010, 12:52 PM
OdinsBeard@ You are noticed!:) Jim is younger than Downey Jr., so i dont count that age as a problem either.

Ryden@ Im still on his side too, but because Nolan and folks hasnt yet offer him the role, im turning to my other choice. Caviezel!:D

If they are looking for more bad ass, experienced and mature Superman! Caviezel is the right choice!... He or Hamm!
