Jon Hamm talks Superman...!

Jon Hamm of "Mad Men" speaks of the problems of bringing Superman to life

MTV caught up recently with "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm and brought up the fact that he's a fan favorite to play everyone's favorite Kryptonian in the soon-to-be-released "Man of Steel." Hamm said that playing such a nearly flawless character like Kal-El might be a challenge...

"It's a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they're not flawed. Superman is Superman - he's invincible, so where's the drama?"

I'm not sure about everyone else but I think Hamm was BORN to play Superman. He may be a little older than Routh or Welling. If the plan for "The Man of Steel" is to ignore Superman's origin then using an older actor could work out fairly well. What say you?

@Superzero: I'm right there with you all the way. I'm 100% convinced Jon Hamm is Superman. The resemblance to Alex Ross's Superman is uncanny and whenever I see that Superman I think to myself "that's what Superman should look like in the movies."

JON HAMM FOR SUPERMAN!!

I think Steven Segal looks lik Alex Ross' Superman. Dont mean he's right for the part.

right on man. I remember Alex Ross saying that he was perfect for Captain America but I totally disagree on that. I'd love to see an older, in continuity Superman, you know like he's been in Metropolis for a while. I mean he's not too old but I'd rather see him than some 23 year old kid.

He's got a point. The problem with Superman (even with the whole Doomsday angle) and Superheroes in general, is you know they'll win in the end so there is'nt really much of a drama aspect it that regard.

He would be awesome as an older Supes and we'd finally get a modern Superman who looks like a man and not some 'pretty boy'.

Myself tho, i would prefer him as Batman. Give the Batman Franchise a rest after Nolans done with it and do a 'Dark Knight Returns' style movie in a few years.

@DLM IDK brother, Bale will always be Batman/Bruce Wayne to me but as far as older Batman I would go totally apeshit if Mel Gibson played a "Dark Knight Returns" Bruce Wayne, I know Gibson has been off the deep end lately but him being crazy as hell would finally work out for him in that role!

@Starsapphire Nice pic!

Why do people always say that?Yes he's invincible. He's nearly perfect. That's the point of the character. The drama of Superman is not specifically about the man. It's not about if he'll live or if he'll die(he most likely will live). The drama is in if he'll win or if he'll lose(he'll probably win). The stories don't generally feature Superman's life in danger, they're about everyone else's life being put in danger, and if he'll be able to save them in time.

I don't read a Superman comics to hear about the intricacies of his life or his struggles. That's not what I want to see in a movie.I want to see a god-like hero take on a god-like villain, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.I want to see epic fights and destruction. There shouldn't be any time to even explore his personal life.Just focus on the dire conflict of the story.

Knowing the hero will win in the end doesn't lessen the enjoyment of an epic story.

That FOD video was fantastic! Saw that awhile back. As for you previous comments on the whole "where's the drama" thing, judging by your reaction am I right to assume you've read "All Star Superman" by Morrison/Quietly? If you haven't then you should RUN to your nearest comic shop and pick 'em up because what you wrote PERFECTLY describes that fantastic series.

I think that he'd work as the cocky buisness man Luthor we know from the comics. And what ulitmate irony would it be if a contender for Superman is cast as Lex Luthor. Something poetic about that idea.

People get a vision of who should be played by when they see it enough they tend to think the person is really possible I am going to enjoy when someone is chosen to play Superman so the fan choices will stop.

Hamm is much better suited to play Batman then Superman. Could be because he has that stick up his ass kind of tormented acting that is geared toward Bruce Wayne. There is no way I could ever see him as Clark Kent, or wearing the cape. Routh or nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
