Shortly before it was announced that Zack Snyder's Justice League is coming to HBO Max next year, the filmmaker held a watch party for Man of Steel which was crammed full of fascinating reveals.
Among the topics covered by Snyder was Clark Kent/Kal-El's decision to don a red and blue Kryptonian costume rather than the traditional black colour worn by his family on their home planet. While this isn't something that's necessarily bugged fans since 2013, the director's answer might just make you look at this moment in a different light during future rewatches.
"The House of El's family suit would be the black suit, but the suit facing out into the public, the suit he says 'you'll help them attain wonders,' that suit is the suit of optimism in my opinion," Snyder explained (via Screen Rant). "The red and blue suit, to me, is more inclusive. It's a friendlier suit."
This is a legitimately very interesting take, and obviously explains why Superman would have been decked out in black upon returning from the grave in 2017's Justice League. That's something Snyder has pretty much confirmed will happen in the "Snyder Cut" on Vero, so now it's hopefully just a waiting game until we get to finally see the iconic superhero don that in the DCEU.
Despite reports that Zack Snyder's Justice League will be a one-off, the hope is that the release of that will open the door to him telling more stories with these characters...hopefully, Superman is among them.
