Verendus, a few days ago posted a review of Man of Steel on a message board at neogaf.com. There he says he went to a test screening about two weeks ago. He claims that he isn't a comic book aficionado, but has seen the Donner films and the Justice League animated television show. What you will read below is a portion of his review. I am leaving out the heavier spoilers, but if you would like to view them click here.

The story is simple, and executed better for it. You're basically presented Clark Kent as a boy/man going through changes and having an internal conflict about his identity. This character arc has a two step resolution. The first is him coming to terms with his role as a potential protector of humanity, a conflict fueled by various events in his life, which brings us the first amazing and climactic point of the movie with the birth of Superman. The second is the reality of the existence of Superman on humanity and him coming to peace with what that means for him and how he is perceived. This obviously brings us the major climax of the movie, supported by an ass whooping.

The action is great in the movie. There is fair bit of it. It feels like The Matrix. By that, I mean it's quite over the top. This is good because it's Superman. There are a lot of little touches that are shown by Henry Cavill which give more gravitas to the vulnerability of Superman. Moments where he's shaken or staggered. They're just cool moments. The action is both slow and fast which gives an effect of something superhuman occurring. In terms of action, there are about four major setpieces. Then there are a lot of little action moments in between. It really does feel like the first time Superman has been done justice in live action. There is one moment near the end where you will go, this is [frick]ing Superman. It's basically the climactic moment. I'll have to re-watch Avengers, but I think I enjoyed the action in this movie more than any other superhero movie because it just had a lot of weight behind it.

You want Superman to succeed.

Henry Cavill is Superman to me now. I like his take on the character. I don't really care necessarily how Superman/Clark Kent is in the comics. But Henry has a really good performance and brings a new Superman for the modern era. One who is powerful, strong, and inhumane in ability, yet also relatable and earns our sympathy. Also, he looks so much more awesome with the beard. It would be amazing having a Superman with a beard. Let him be clean shaven as Clark Kent, but then when he goes all manly and turns into Superman, he grows a beard instantly too. You get used to seeing Cavill without the beard, but it's so weird. Like he was born to have that beard.

Also, damn Zod is badass. Too badass. He comes out with some next level quotes. I don't even--

The weakest aspect of this movie is the Lois Lane/Clark Kent/Superman relationship. I don't think Amy Adams turned in a bad performance, but in a movie which is quite tight and focused, this aspect was the weakest link. It kind of sticks out. The character on her own is fine, and her little crew are a very pleasant addition, but I think they could've stopped going Hollywood and left a little of the relationship development to a second movie.

Supporting cast is strong. Kevin Costner is really cool. The My-Cocaine of this movie. He's not in it very long, but maybe I like those father figure characters. Also, Morpheus being all Morpheus and being pretty cool again.

The music is very nice. At times slow and emotional, and at others sweeping and epic. The new theme is good. Different, but good. It fits the Man of Steel.

I think I chose to compare this to Batman Begins for a few reasons. It feels similar, it's also character focused, and it does a fantastic job of making you anticipate the next movie. There is a nice blend of serious character focus, and lighthearted humour in the movie. The villains for the sequel are somewhat hinted, and this is a really strong first outing. I'm definitely curious to see what happens with the sequel. They could make an amazing movie like The Dark Knight, or like Iron Man 2, turn out a pile of crap after a solid first movie. Who knows, but as it stands, there will be hyperbole when people see this move. I'm sure of it. That's because it's good, and one of the best superhero movies. More importantly, it's brought Superman from being that little pussy who is always in the shadow of the Goddamn Batman, to more of an equal standing.

Like I said above, if you want to know more spoilers, read his full review by clicking here. By the way, out of respect to the community please don't discuss those spoilers that I didn't post, here in the comment section below. Thank you, we appreciate it.

If this is true then it sounds like it'll be amazing. Wow, can't believe I said it bout a Superman movie, let alone a Zack Snyder movie. That being said, if this is true, the romance is the biggest problem with, The Dark Knight trilogy. Apparently, Goyer can't write romance for shit.

Also, Iron Man 2 is not as bad as many make it out to be. Especially after, The Avengers. Therefore, the trilogy curse hasn't kicked in for the Armored Avenger yet. But as the saying goes, opinions are like assholes.

I've never felt Superman is "that little pussy who is always in the shadow of the Batman". I dont believe thats an accurate take or that very many share it. Being dark and growling doesnt make a character badass. Superman is the shining example of a true hero and easily the most powerful of all. If anything, all other heroes are in his shadow. He's the first, best superhero. Period.

Wow. I read this because I will be out of the country (I live in the States) when this is released. Unfortunately I doubt there will be any showings where I am headed but who knows. I thought this movie would be really good, not mind blowing, but a solid movie. Perhaps it will be a lot better than I imagined. I'm glad about the huge spoiler to those who know what I am talking about who read the article.

I'm too weak to avoid the full spoiler review. I must read it.

Actually, spoilers don't bother me that much except for the 6th sense, I'll never forgive my friend for ruining that for me, never!

On a personal note this article makes me miss my beard. The wife doesn't like it, says it's too itchy. Perhaps when we are older, and have grown disgusted with each others bodies I will bust it back out. Great find nailbiter, wear that beard with pride, and wear it for those of us who can no longer rock one.

@RidiculousFanBoyDemands In terms of the huge spoiler in the article, was that tidbit something people really were really talking about here at comicbookmovie? I don't seem to remember seeing much about it on the site. I guess I missed it. Either way, I'm glad about it too. If certain events unfolded in the opposite direction of the spoiler, I wouldn't be too thrilled either. Regardless, in the wake of recent news, anything is truly possible.

I will never truly like Superman as a character, no matter how good the film is, but I hope it succeeds.

The Avengers line was completely unnecessary. Marvel is doing their thing, DC is doing theirs. There is no similarity, so there should be no comparisons.

I saw it on here awhile back. I remember a lot of people talking about it for a few days, then it just went away. I don't think anybody made too much out of it.

Still, it made me happy for many reasons. Honestly I'm glad Chris Nolan is Godfathering this franchise, because at least we will get quality movies. They may not be what everyone wants, but from a standpoint of craftsmenship his CBM have been extremely well made and produced. They take themselves seriously and don't seem out to make a quick buck.

Having said that I hope they bring in a new Batman to this universe, his Dark Knight trilogy was a good elseworlds tale, why not craft a new Batman that fits the Superman universe that appears to be a bit more fantastical.

"Superman with a beard"... yeah, not happening with the bazillion fans going to go apesh*t on that one for a first film coming out of the reboot. I got nothing against beards, but one on Supes would look a little too strange.

That stupid comment about being a pussy in the shadows of "THE Batman" made me laugh. Superman was THE first SUPER hero where the others came following after. The reviewer here really shows how much he/she doesn't really know about comics outside of the films at all. having a dark, brooding background/backstory is NOT always the hallmark of an epic character or superhero movie. That formula won't work all the damn time.

The romance aspect being the weakest link is about par for the course and if I am reading it right, sounds like it was tacked on as an afterthought as just part of fan service because it is so much a part of the mythos that it should always BE there regardless. Personally, I don't mind really about how the romance would go, given that this is the first film of the "new" reboot. I would rather wish it was shelved for the second film as the reviewer notes that Man of Steel is more of a character piece focusing mainly on the titular character.

So far the few news we've been getting is positive, let's hope it delivers when it is finally released.

I can't wait. I really hope this does well for WB so they will take a risk with other superheroes. I would so like to see an Aquaman movie.

I hope there will be a midnight showing for this. Because I don't want to wait that much longer.

Although I have very high expectations for this film, I'm terrified they are going to go about the JLA movie all wrong. First off, no more origin stories. Even people who aren't comic fans are mostly aware of how the likes of at least Batman and Superman came to be. I think they need to go into these movies with the heroes already being well established. Another thing,
I do not want them connected with Nolan's Batman trilogy or Man of Steel. The reason I enjoyed Marvel's Avengers was because it wasn't "grounded" in reality and had more of a comic book influence than what Warner and DC are used to doing. In fact, they need to
stay away from solo films completely. They have already made excellent franshises with Bats and Supes (hopefully again) so why jepordize those by adding to them? Instead go a different route than that of Marvel. Begin with team-ups. I believe a World's Finest (w/ Batman and Superman) and a The Brave and The Bold (w/ Flash and Green Lantern....John Stewart...not Hal) would be awesome, maybe even some sort of team up with Wonder Woman and Aquaman? Also, I've heared rumors of Darksied being a possible badie for the JLA film. This is too close to Thanos in my opinion. As is any sort of alien invasion deal like with the Chitari. Instead, I would like to see them bring Mongol and his Warworld to the big screen. Possibly even have a Lobo movie lead up where his is somehow forced by Mongol into "collecting" Earth's champions to battle in Warworld. Just a thought.

JLA will most likey not happen in th long run, it may happen and if it does, it'll be fantastic.

MOS WILL butf[frick] competion. There is no doubt in my mind that this will kick ass over 2013 films.

It most likey will be better than AVENGERS, a bit better than TASM and the level of SM2.

If it hits SM2 or Im1 standard, i'll blow my load. ( metaphorically)

What's really funny is the biggest "specific detail" spoiler in that review ISN'T ACTUALLY A SPOILER. That review is generally good enough to avoid details, so I appreciate that.

That one bit, however, lays to rest a rumor that's made the rounds here and online. And Gina Carano doesn't come up at all either way. It's a solid review. Thanks for posting it, Nail.

I think MoS will be amazing. I really do. Especially in comparison to the shit (I love you grif) that has been EVERY superman movie until now. Yes I'm including Chris Reeves in my mix. Those movies sucked. Everyone knows it.

I also think it will easily be on par with IM3.....will it be better? Only time will tell but I will say it now....

MoS will make more money than IM3 regardless of story/character/quality. Period.

IM3 has too stiff of competition in may to compete.

International box office Prediction , rough....
IM3=600 mil
MoS=800 mil+
