With a number of superpowered characters already set to return to Smallville for the tenth and final season, it's already been confirmed that Arthur "AC" Curry will be among them when he returns in the ninth episode. "It's supposed to be a lot darker this year," Alan told E! Online at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, "which I'm so excited about."

When quizzed about what the character means to him and what we can expect to see from Aquaman in the final season, he said: "Aquaman is such a bubble-gummy type of character who doesn't get a lot of respect as a superhero, so to be able to come and play a darker side is going to be a lot of fun."

"He's a limited character—as far as needing a lot of water around—but there are ways to justify it. Plus, I like to think of him as quite a cool superhero, and having the chance to go back for the final season of 'Smallville' is huge."

Yeah, I'm disappointed that Aquaman is not treated with the same respect as Namor. I've always thought he was a great superhero...

@npatil - that's because Namor RULES. If you don't believe me just ask him. Imperious Rex!

I'm far from an expert on Aquaman but Namor is a much cooler character in my opinion! Yes, he's an arrogant asshole but the fact he's joined the X-Men and is currently trying to seduce Emma Frost right under Cyclops' nose really does make him one awesome badass, lol! :D

As for Smallville season 10...we'll wait and see. I'm hoping for less "filler" episodes and a lot more of Clark finally becoming something that at least resembles Superman. We've waited a decade and they'd better not [frick] it up in the last ever season.

aquaman is awesome! he's one of the 7 founders, he should receive the respect he deserve. aquaman jokes piss me off just as much as gay parodies of batman and robin!

@ NoPurpose: go toe-to-toe with Superman? come on now, i realize Aquaman is a hell of a lot stronger then people make him out to be but saying he's on par strength wise with Supes? Isn't that going a little far?

JoshWilding - 9/13/2010, 3:13 PM
drknight92: What was that you said about gay parodies? ;D

I don't think Batman is gay, lol, but old comics like that sure do make it easy to take the piss!

I like the angry bastard Aquaman..but then I spose thats very close to Namor. Generally not a big fan of the character but this mallet headed plank does him no justice in Smallville thats for sure.

JoshW @ i dont think they're gay either, just abit "curious" lol

Anyway back to the topic at hand.

I'm not to sure about the whole "It's supposed to be a lot darker this year" comment.

Was kinda hoping they would be pulling away from that, with him finally knowing his destiny and becoming Supes an all.

@ Josh
Good article again buddy.

I never had too much of a problem with Aquaman. I thought they did a great job with him during the Justice League cartoons.

@frogsplash45: Exactly how DC should approach Aquaman, in terms of JL or a solo film.

I think he's due for a costume update. It's a common misconception that he's useless outside of water. I think DC should try and do something 'bout that.

Namor is an ass. I wouldn't let that guy on my team or near my wife. As for aquaman he's a cool enough character. Not as lame as most people think
MarkCassidy

He is an ass. But he's a great character! I like anyone that [frick]s with Cyclops. I mean could you blame any girl of his for looking elsewhere? I guarantee you that guy is a missionary only dude!

I do like that Aquaman is the "hero" of the two, but then Namor only helps when he's helping himself. I do like Namor better though.

Cyclops gets such a bad rap nowadays but I grew up always thinking of him as the X-Men's version of Captain America, Marvel needs to do something about that and make him cool again.

JohnTom88 - 9/13/2010, 10:33 PM
@npatil: Namor never has the same disrespect because he's the first comic anti-hero and his brash direct personality has been the same from year one. Unlike Mr. "Whatever my writer feels like me to be" Aquaman.

@NoPurposeNaji: Douche or not, Namor certainly has a constant definitive personality. Also he's not really a douche, but pragmatic on everything he does. If he can get by of something without the need to give on something, why not?

@Rormachine: Angry Aquaman is a kowtow to the legacy of Namor.

Namor is simply the better character. Namor lives by his personality and pragmatism. While we don't know what's the real Aquaman personality is, Namor acts the way real world politician or ancient warlord does. It's a good thing that Aquaman comics has been assisted by great supporting cast, villain and storyline but in terms of main character wise there's none more singular than the Submariner. Yeah Imperius Rex indeed.
JohnTom88
JohnTom88 - 9/13/2010, 10:38 PM
@Rormachine: Cyclops (if written right) is not as douche as Namor, but he's a mission oriented guy. Again Cyclops is certainly not your cookie cutter bland comic character.

And bringing Aquaman back is cool :)

I love Aquaman as a character on Smallville!
He's extremely interesting here! I think he
is too under-used in Smallville! I loved it
when he stole Clark's thunder with Lois by
saving her before Clark could! LOL

I was hoping to see the Aquaman series but with
Alan Ritchson instead of the guy they finally
used for the Aquaman pilot movie, JUSTIN HARTLEY!

HARTLEY is great for GA but I don't like him for
Aquaman at all!

Damm, I hope they don't screw Aquaman up in this
last Smallville season and they go out with Clark
in-style!

I did a fancast awhile back for a
Smallville spin-off..."JUSTICE"!
I'd like to see more of the JLA in
the Smallville universe! I really would!

And speaking of fancasts...
(((CHECK OUT MY AVENGERS' MEDIEVAL
FANCAST IN FANFIC that took place
in AVENGERS VOL. 3, ISSUES 2-3, WHEN
THEY FOUGHT MORGAN LE FEY AND SHE TURNED
REALITY INTO A MEDIEVAL REALITY WHERE
THE AVENGERS WERE HER "QUEEN'S VENGEANCE"!
IT WAS WRITTEN BY KURT BUSIEK & DRAWN BY
GEORGE PEREZ!)))

Wow. Since those first couple of comments just about everything has been covered.

JohnTom88 and Ror, you both nailed. Namor is a Jerk, and a great character. I really can't comment on Aquaman being lame vs misused, since I have never really read his stuff, but he does seem to be inconsistently portrayed. I just looked him up on wikipedia and he has a good power set, almost the same as Namor. Didn't know he was supposed to be that strong and invulnerable. He should be a good character to have around in most situations.

I'm not the biggest Aquaman fan, but I do like the character. An aquatic hero is always needed to make up a good super team. Arthur is not only strong but also a Bad-a$$. Plus, He is the F@#$ing King of Atlantis!
Namor is ok, but I never really got the winged feet. So odd for a water based hero.
Magicfingers
Magicfingers - 9/14/2010, 10:43 AM
@frogsplash45- A BIG YES to that. Justice was one of my alltime favs. The epic Epicness of that series will live on for ages.
@Eviltwin- I thought the same thing. Strong, grim, & a hard a$$. Plus, the scene were he cuts off his own hand so he can help save Atlantis was HARSH!
@WittySupername- I loved the battle between Aquaman and Namor in Marvel vs. DC. Namor is all tied up and thinks he can break free and fly away, so what does Aquaman do... he tells a Killer Whale to jump out of the water and crush him into the ground. "That is why you lost Namor. You are to noble to cheat." - Arthur Curry
JohnTom88
JohnTom88 - 9/14/2010, 5:13 PM
Yeah, Namor is not that noble.

Aquaman is noble (well most writers thought to be) and glorified King of Atlantis, but Namor is pragmatic and more like Warlord of Atlantis whose power can be taken out anytime. Again if you want real world resemblance, read story on Ghengis Khan or Tokugawa Ieyasu who often switched allegiance and perform feats of misdirections. Namor is more like a warlord/city state prince rather than King Arthur.
