It's been nearly a week since we first got to see DC Studios' new DCU slate, and there continues to be a lot of back and forth among fans about Warner Bros.' plans.
Despite there being a lot of disappointment surrounding the decision to end Henry Cavill's time as Superman, almost everyone seems to agree that Superman: Legacy is a step in the right direction for the Man of Tomorrow. Written (and likely directed) by James Gunn, the movie promises to deliver a hopeful take on the hero we've all been waiting for.
Gunn, meanwhile, continues to address fans on social media about the DCU's future and has now reiterated that, despite the title and release date announcement, Clark Kent still hasn't been cast.
That was in response to a rumour that Tall Girl actor Luke Eisner is the frontrunner to play Superman, with Gunn making it clear that this is "false" because "casting has not begun." While we're sure various actors are being considered, it's clear no discussions have begun and that a decision definitely hasn't been made.
It was recently reported that Gunn's Superman is going to be considerably younger than Cavill's. He'll be around 25, suggesting the DCU will be far more youthful than the Snyderverse. For comparison's sake, Cavill turns 40 later this year and would be 42 by the time Superman: Legacy is released.
In the nicest way possible, it seems the actor was too old for this version of Superman, a Kal-El who is still finding his place in Metropolis as both a superhero and cub reporter for The Daily Planet.
It's probably going to be a while before any news is shared about the DCU's new Superman, but we're guessing some sort of announcement will be made before 2023 is at an end.
Superman: Legacy is set to soar into theaters on July 11, 2025.
