Marc Guggenheim Confirms Christopher Reeve Superman In CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS As Brandon Routh's Character

It seems that the connection into DC's mythos goes even further than expected in CW's upcoming crossover. How much more do you think we could see in the upcoming DC epic?

Among the many upcoming highlights of CW's epic Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover series is that Brandon Routh would be taking up the role of the Kingdom Come version of Superman. What has now become clear however, is not just that Brandon Routh is reprising the role of Superman, but he his in fact playing the same version of Superman as Routh's big screen Superman in Superman Returns, the rebootquel to Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

There had been some speculation about this previously, when it was revealed that Brandon Routh's Clark Kent would be wearing a similar outfit to the one Routh wore as Kent in Superman Returns. This would also make Routh's character the first confirmed character from a DC film to appear in the crossover, though some reported set photos indicate that there may be a visit to the Tim Burton Batman universe during the crossover as well. With reports ranging from the FOX/Netflix Lucifer show to the DC Universe service's version of the Titans rumored to have some involvement in the crossover, the stage seems set for Crisis on Infinite Earths to be DC TV's most ambitious crossover yet.

DC always meant for those versions to be the same but it's sort of unclear. Returns contradicts Superman 3 and 4. And the DC wikia has them as 2 different realities. So it's sort of unclear whether there are two different Reeve Supermen.

@Nightwing1015 - Superman returns only follows the first two the last two didn’t happen.

@SuperbatSpider1003 - Yeah I think that was one of the first pieces of info Singer ever spoke about its continuity when the movie came out lol

I wonder if they gonna tell the status on Lois,Jason(Superman and
Lois's kid), Richard White(who is NOT the Father), Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Martha Kent, and Lex Luthor(who is stuck on an island with Kitty).

So according to that logic, General Zod (Terence Stamp) is Clark's father in Smallville, only he calls himself Jor-El. I know, there's different universes, just thought it was funny.

Feel with this being Rouths final shot at Superman, him leaving the shows, and this being presumably the finally appearance of ‘Donner’ Superman, this Supes will go out in a massive blaze of Glory. Maybe even have him ending up living in the sun? Maybe that would be a bit much haha

@Twenty23Three - add on... if he ended up living in the sun then he’d ‘always be around’ haha CW I’ll expect my cheque in the mail

Sure Jan. Just because you co-opt it doesn't make it so.

It will be awesome if the Donner Superman is sort of the final "representative combatant" for some kind of smackdown. Couldn't think of a better character to embody the DC Multiverse, no offense the the Amell Green Arrow.

I think Christopher Reeve would have loved this crossover, considering his enthusiasm for "Smallville." Wish he were here to do his own cameo, but I'm sure Brandon Routh will do him proud.

I don't understand how any of this is surprising. Singer confirmed this years ago when first promoting "Superman Returns" and said that the film took place after Donner's 1 and Lester's 2. People can't be THAT simple, lol. Still, it'll be epic to see Donnerverse Superman back in action, more powerful and badass than ever!
