Teen Titans Go! celebrates their 100th episode later tonight and I was able to discuss this milestone event, the show and more with producer Michael Jelenic. On its way to the 100th episode, Teen Titans Go! has become both the #1 animated series on television (among Kids 2-11) as well as the #1 series on Cartoon Network. No small achievement! The 100th episode airs tonight (7/3) on Cartoon Network!
Jamie S: How excited are you that TEEN TITANS GO is such a big hit?
Michael Jelenic: This is one of the funniest shows I have worked on so to see it be a big hit is very exciting.
Can you give us some insight on what we will be seeing in the 100th episode?
Raven gets sick of noise and the titans making noise so she finds a way to ban noise and the episode there is no noise and by the end of the episode the titans are all making their noises and sound effects from their own mouths.
I Love and enjoy how funny and silly this show is do you think that is why it is so successful?
Yes, and because of the great staff we have and how well they portray these characters.
So we have seen Batman, Aquaman, The Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and the young Justice League, appear in TEEN TITANS. Will we be seeing any cameos in upcoming episodes?
Yes there will be a lot. In one episode the titans go to the Hall Of Justice and they try on the justice leagues’ costumes and have to go help the justice league.
I love Raven! Which TEEN TITAN is your favorite?
I love all of the characters, but if I had to choose it would have to be Robin. I probably relate to him the most because he is the most like me - an overly dramatic me.
So will we ever see Robin and Starfire get together?
Maybe in the future there might be an episode, but right now we like to see Robin suffer and how much he will take.
I’ve seen all the episodes, but my favorite episode has to be “The Mask”, what is your favorite Episode?
So many… Any time when we can think of something so creative and illustrate something crazy, like the episode “Serious Business” - when the toilets come to life and then they join other bathrooms from jump city and go to outer space - I love the song in that one.
So you and Aaron Horvath have co-written some episodes together. Do you have boundaries, or do you have free reign over what you create?
I think because it is such a success we have been able to do what we want so far. We always think maybe this is gone too far, maybe one day we will cross the line.
This relates to young and old people. Is that something you think about when creating?
We remember that it is a kid show, but also like to add things we think are funny and what we enjoyed as kids?
So you mentioned you like to add things you enjoyed as a kid what inspired you from your childhood?
You will see references in episodes like the “A-team” or “Small Wonder” or “Alf”. I loved magic when I was younger and got made fun of because of it, but there is an episode when Robin wants to do magic.
