TMNT Co-Creator Kevin Eastman Is Optimistic About New Movie; Has Cameo

Not that one of those things is necessarily related to the other of course! Although Peter Laird had a few issues with the direction this reboot is taking when he spoke to CBM a while back, the other half of the TMNT co-creator team seems much more positive..

Although casual fans seem to think the Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick looks like it might be decent, the same can't be said for the hardcore shell-heads. Of course we only have a brief teaser trailer to go by, but the changes made to TMNT canon -- not to mention the look of the Turtles themselves -- have rubbed many up the wrong way. One man who is optimistic about the new movie, however, is one of the creators of the Turtles himself. While talking to CBR about the upcoming TMNT annual, Kevin Eastman explained why he feels this reboot will make fans "incredibly happy".

"It's been a four, almost five-year journey to bring the next "Turtles" movie to life since the time we pitched it. I know everybody is like, "Oh, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, he's gonna ruin it! He's gonna destroy it!" But everyone I have encountered has been nothing more than incredibly sincere to try and bring the Turtles back in a way that's new, fresh and exciting, but with total respect to everything that's come before. I've read the script. I have a cameo in the move. It's awesome -- really fun. What they've done with the film is going to make fans incredibly happy, including myself. The vision is awesome, the effects are incredible and the story will be something everybody can relate to and like. I'll leave it out there for the fans to let us know what they like in the end, but I'm very proud to be part of it. A lot of people are going to be surprised."

Sold? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman. It stars Megan Fox, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg and opens August 8. For the full interview click the link below.

You know, I thought he was completely full of bullshit until I saw the trailer. The trailer really swayed me.
I agree with Peter Laird's sentiments, but Eastman has the inside track on this. I'm cautiously optimistic, myself.
My only real beef with this movie, now, is Eric Sachs. But if he turns out to be an Utrom, then I will be very, very happy.

FYI for those calling Eastman a sell-out, I doubt he got very much for his involvement in this. He'll probably get whatever Bob Kane got on Batman, as project consultant.
He doesn't own TMNT, they don't need to pay him anything. He's on the level.
He sold his half to Laird. That's not really selling out.
Laird sold TMNT lock, stock and barrel to Viacom. A megacorp. That is kinda selling out. But I'm sure he had his reasons.
Shame though, because he left a lot of plot threads hanging in vol. 4.

@Everyone who took my $$ joke seriously:

Can't a guy (named Loki, no less) make a JOKE??!? It was such an easy set up, that I couldn't resist. I thought everyone would suss it out as obvious joke is obvious. I even did it with the cartoon theme song in mind!! I did it because I HATE the cartoon (preferred the original comic story). Some of you, in here, have said FAR MORE insulting things about other projects on other threads. I have to leave now and hold a telethon to try and get you guys a sense of humor.

@DukeAcureds - Exactly, these guys don't know shit about this franchise if they're gonna call him a sell-out. The entire idea they have about the TMNT from their youth on TV with the cartoon and the previous live-action movies IS THE REAL SELL-OUT VERSION!! Eastman and Laird sold out the original comic version of the vicious and lethal turtles so that Viacom could "Disney-fy" it for a younger age group with all that cowabunga dude shit and going over the top with the Pizza and Party Dude crap as well as the colour-coded masks so the little kiddies could tell them apart.

Everyone who likes that version bought into the original "Sell-out" and needs to shut up about this new version because they enjoyed a long time with their sell out cheesy TMNT and now its time for a new generation to have their own.

as a fan of the original, i have no real problem with this remake, i am glad to see the turtle back on the big screen, Fox is some great eye candy, and the CGI looks amazing, but i have 1 concern, just 1, and it is so small, that people will hate me for it.

I love the original design, so i fear that i will be siting in the cinema and the only thing i will look at the whole time is the noses.

Small matter i know, but i fear that i will constantly focus on those noses, constantly saying to myself that it does not llok right and that i hate it, that it will take me out of the experience of the movie.

I hope they proof me wrong, but i have seen the trailer a few times, and those noses keep taking me out of enjoying it, it naggs me, almost like The Mole annoyed Austin Powers. he could only focus on the "mole"on The Moles face, and nothing else.

I am looking foward to the movie, but i hope that the noses wont take me out of the experience

A lot of people are wondering how those things get in and out of the sewer with those massive shells. Not through any manhole I have seen. Again, if you are going to redesign characters for a "new generation" fine, but if it gets so far from the original idea why not stop being Hollywood hacks and make something new.

its a kids movie by nikalodeon. made by jonathan leibsman (he sucks) and produced by michael bay who also sucks. expect it to be a 2 hour cartoon, the turtles probably wont drink, kill with their weapons or be ordering the shredder to commit seppuku any time soon.
