Aaron Sager from Blastr was at Wizard World Madison Comic Con this past Saturday and listened to James O'Barr speak at the event. He has a breakdown of what O'Barr discussed regarding The Crow reboot that has had trouble getting off the ground. Like, Luke Evans (he Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) recently left the project once his option expire. O'Barr says Evans become a big star since he signed that first contract for The Crow and became to pricey to resign. That is why he is out. Not just because he is too busy.
O'Barr said film has already spent $20 million in pre-production. Which is kind of expected since there has been several directors in the past that were attached to it and all of them would require a certain amount of pre-production work.
As for the new lead, O'Barr has set his sights on Sam Witwer, who is best known for roles in Being Human, Smallville and voicing Darth Maul in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series.
O’Barr said he still needs to convince Hardy of the choice, but when Evans exited, he phoned Witwer and told him he was now at the top of the list. He said Witwer’s reply was that he’d mow the creator’s lawn for the rest of their lives for the chance.
