Sasha Calle's take on Supergirl is a highlight of The Flash, but she really doesn't have that much to do outside of the final action set-piece, and makes the most of her limited screen-time.
While watching the movie, it seems clear that Calle originally had a slightly bigger role, and the actress has now confirmed that she did indeed film scenes that didn't make the theatrical version... some of which sound like they may have pushed the violence a bit too far for the studio's liking!
During an interview with Collider, Calle talks about the intense training and stunt-work she put her body through to play the Girl of Steel, and mentions that the silo sequence (where the Scarlet Speedsters and Batman rescue Kara from a government facility) was originally longer - because some "R-rated deleted scenes" were cut.
Kara doesn't exactly hold back when taking down her captors after being released, so we can only imagine how much more brutal things would have been if these scenes were left in. Hopefully, we'll get to see Supergirl unleashed when The Flash arrives on Blu-ray.
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, and a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
