THE FLASH Now Set To Be Introduced In His Own Pilot Rather Than Episode 20 Of ARROW

Barry Allen's debut in episodes 8 and 9 of Arrow has been so well received by the CW that they've now decided to scrap plans for The Flash to make his debut in episode 20 of that series, instead committing to telling his origin story fully in his very own pilot. Read on for details!

Deadline have revealed that there has been a change of plans for The Flash's small screen debut. While Grant Gustin will still make an appearance as Barry Allen in a two-part episode of Arrow a couple of weeks from now, "the CW has opted to film a traditional standalone Flash pilot instead of doing a backdoor pilot as Episode 20 of Arrow. With Episodes 8 and 9 serving as an origin story, the plan was for The Flash character to make his debut — red costume and all — in Arrow‘s Episode 20. He will now do it in the pilot." Bosses at the network were apparently extremely impressed with episodes 8 and 9, and this is clearly a sign that they have faith in a live-action series featuring Gustin. The obvious advantage here is that the team behind the episode (Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Geoff Johns and David Nutter) now have chance to tell the story of Barry's transformation into The Flash in it entirety. It may also help keep the grounded world of Arrow away from superpowers for the time being.

So with this news I take it that WB has a lot of faith in Flash. Now they just got to make a big screen version. Then I will be really happy.

I was looking forward to him using his powers in Arrow and seeing how people like Ollie & Diggle react to his presence. I know how Felicity gonna react. She gonna be trying to throw herself all over him. LOL.

Hope they pull off Flash with storylines and character progression as well as they have done for Arrow. More worried about that than how they present his powers on screen.

The 90's Flash show had a great pilot for Barry Allen. Hope lightning strike twice for Flash this time.

I'm a bit disappointed, but at the same time think it could very well be a good thing, allowing the proper time to be used for the origin. Say what you want, but for being a 'cheap show' as MexicanSuperman puts it, Arrow is pretty good.

I'm gonna be crushed if they decide to use this typical, run-of-the-mill, good-looking, mid-20's CW actor to stand next to the likes of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in the DCCU.
Don't get me wrong I know neither Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck are academy nominated actors but they just stand head and shoulders above your typical 90210 TV actors, especially in such a large scale movie with some of the biggest pop culture icons to ever exist.

I thought we were getting a Flash movie in 2016? Is this gonna be in the same universe as Man of Steel?

I guess this is good of the actor anyways
He should take this time to bulk up and get cut so when he puts on the suit it looks great!

Will this suck as bad as "Arrow"?

I'm ok with this. I just hope they don't let this guy carry over into the dccu. Charlie Hunnam dropping out of 50 shades makes me think he's Barry.

Is the plan for fall 2014? That would be pretty cool. I dont think they are trying to keep superpowers away from Arrow. Dr. Ivo already mentioned a super human serum.

Im excited and worried...Excited its a stand alone pilot, but VERY worried WB/DC is moving stuff around so fast that things will get very very messy fast...

I still think DC is going to do a more combined tv/movie universe similar to the way marvel is putting on the cartoons these days...even though the toons are pretty weak

@BlackIceJoe

In this case I think it's more CW than WB...if not and their liked what they saw from Gustin and Arrow episodes there won't be different big screen version...they will merge TV series and Movies and that will be their DC universe...I hope Gustin will do his job right and will be cool Flash cause I want WB to merge their movies with Arrow and all...of course to some degree...like they can recast and rethink count Vertigo form Arrow.

Well this certainly boosts my faith in Gustin, hopefully he can pull it off. If he ends up being good, id love for them to connect Arrow/Flash universe to the movie series. The second season of Arrow has been fantastic, they toned down the soap-opera stuff and refined and added to all the great stuff - so there is really no reason to complain if they do connect it...especially if Gustin is good as flash

I love how some of you bash on these "CW Model" actors when most actors have gotten their start on TV shows even Academy Award winner Ben Affleck. I'm glad that we don't get shows and movies based on what fan boys want because those would be sh!t.

Dammit. That sucks. WTF, CW?

They're trying to run spin on it like it'll be a good thing. That's bullshit. I am not pleased.

I'm okay with this, just so long as we actually get to the see the pilot. Has The Flash series actually been picked up by The CW?

So is this the real Flash then? The one we see in the JLA movie in a few years? Doesn't make any sense to me having a show about the Flash instead of making a movie about him.
