Alexander Skarsgard Reveals How Close He Came To Playing "Thor"

Skarsgard was so close to playing Thor that he even tried on the costume...

This from MTV's Splash Page:-

"Yeah, I met with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige a few times and the director Kenneth Branagh,” Skarsgard told MTV about rumors that he was one of the last people cut before Chris Hemsworth was chosen to play Thor, “There was definitely some truth in that, yeah.”

Apparently, the casting process got so far along that Skarsgard even filmed an audition in the complete Thor costume, hammer and all. “Yeah", he remembered of slipping into the hero’s threads. “That was pretty fun.”

Skarsgard went on to tell the interviewer that he’ll keep an open mind and remain hopeful to someday land another comic-book-based role. And, since Feige has made recent statements saying that the people he met during the “Thor” auditions could be brought back for other Marvel roles its possible that we may soon see him in a comic book movie yet...

“It depends on the circumstances,” Skarsgard said of a possible role in Captain America or beyond. “It’s pretty hard to say whether I’d take another comic role. It depends on the circumstances - who the director is, and what the character is. But of course I’d be interested in looking into it. I think it’s every little boy’s dream, it would be a person’s dream to play an action hero.”

So, looks like Marvel may already have an idea what costume Thor will be wearing...which would you prefer to see? Classic, Modern or Ultimate?

I prefer the modern costume. Its one of the best redesigned look for a comic character.

I think he would have been a great Thor actually, lets hope Mr Home and Away does a good job.

Yes, God forbid they use the Ultimate look, i mean its only the one that lends itself best to a movie, but what does that matter? The other costumes have winged helmets! Yipeeee!

Ok, sarcasm over! Seriously though, anything between modern and Ultimate and ill be happy.

Yeah, modern rocks. Though I have never understood the need to make the shoulder portions of his cape stand up that high.

The modern look would be awesome on screen.

I think I'd like to see mix of the modern and ultimate, I've always dug the glowing bits of armor on ultimate thor.

JASON LEWIS FOR CAP!!!

Modern will probably be the one... So far in all the movies the trend seems to be modern. It is just an easier big screen transformation. I wanted to see Wolverine in his tights, but it would have been intensely difficult to grasp the reality of and story for it. All in all Wolverine is pretty good, Iron Man still leads the pack for all the casting and costumes so far. Professor X and his wheelchair come pretty close, not but a fraction behind would be Wolverine.

Ultimate minus the hammer-axe.

I don't think he was the best choice, but he was better than the guy they actually picked who actually looks nothing like Thor and is pretty damn small.

Anyway I say Modern or Ultimate. I actually prefer Ultimate though they could do both. Since it takes place on Earth and Asgard while in Asgard give him the modern and then when on earth have him in Ultimate.

that awesome middle pic is beautifully drawn by Gabrielle Del'Otto!

I dont mind the classic Thor costume (especially the way it was drawn by Steve McNiven in Civil War) but the modern costume that started in the JMS run is just perfect for the movie Hopefully there is no way they will use the Ultimate version as from what has been said so far Asgard is going to feature and the Ultimate costume wouldnt fit in, in that sort of environment!

I'm hoping for the modern one, but it'll prolly be a combo of modern and ultimate, which I GUESS I can stomach.

I have a Captain America pic I wanna share... But I have NO idea how to post here... Any help?

I like The Ultimates! Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch' Ultimates 1 and 2 were amazing! Its the costume I dont like-

"Ultimate Thor Art No Thor!"

C'mon, ya can't deny this. He looks GREAT as the WWII Cap.

Chuck for Cap.

Ultimates was the shit until Loeb took over and basically killed half of the team in Ultimatium. Millar is coming back though so that should be interesting.

I don't know why so many people hate the Ultimate Costume. I think it's the best looking one. Modern is pretty cool, but still has a certain lvl of cheesyness to it.

"A Thor Without A Cape Art No Thor!"
ironknight27

I dont hate it but it not exactly my favorite version of his costume.
stupify_me
stupify_me - 6/12/2009, 3:57 PM
A Thor with out a cape is less cheesy and still a Thor.I think the public would be more accepting of The Ultimate Thor costume than the other two. I'm a Thor fan I read it fairly regularly and while the Ultimate stories kind of suck the costume would be the best one for a live action film that non comic fans will be watching.

You sold me.

The Super Soldier Serum is actually 2 parts Chuck Norris' blood 1 part TANG.

Every1Hooked - 6/12/2009, 4:00 PM
it'd be cool to see the more ultimate look but maybe ad the elements of the other suits..maybe add a cape. i dont want to see the helmet in the entire movie..the action would be difficult. itd be cool if he had it at the beginning or end of the film
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 6/12/2009, 4:01 PM
stupify_me: if non comic book fans can accept Spider-Man's costume, The Thing, the crappy Fox Deadpool seen in Origins and the power rangers style Green Goblin from Spidey 1 then they can accept a god damn cape!

i could accept a Thor without a helmet though...

Marvel 1602 Thor

Marvel Manga

I like both looks more than any other, to be honest.
BaronBubba
BaronBubba - 6/12/2009, 4:03 PM
And Marvel 1602 Thor has AND doesn't have a cape... He wears a bear's pelt. Kickass.

::EDIT::

BB, I knew you'd like it... Having Dethklok's Rock Clown as your avatar cemented that we can be friends, in pite of FULK ([frick]ed hulk aka hulk "1")
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 6/12/2009, 4:04 PM
Sorry Bubba dont like either of those! the top one would be ok for a flashback of Odin discovering Loki though!
BaronBubba
BaronBubba - 6/12/2009, 4:07 PM
Although I do agree to 1602 Thor looking more Odin-esque, I'm just a lover of all things Viking, and that is the most LEGIT Thor I've ever seen.

As for the Manga one, I just like the armor design, not the MOST Thor-ish, but I like.

I LIKE THE MIDDLE PIC, IT SEEMS TO BE MORE IN THE PERIOD OF THE NORSE/VIKING ERA, AND DIDNT BRANAUGH SAY HE WAS KIND OF MAKING IT A PERIOD PIECE? THE MIDDLE ONE JUST LOOKS TO ME A LITTLE MORE BELIEVEABLE.
adamant877
adamant877 - 6/12/2009, 4:27 PM
I think a good mix of all three could be ideal! Take the black jurkin with the iron plates, the cape, the helmut (ie. Classic Thor), and mix in the chainmail shirt and leggings (Modern Thor). The ONLY thing I would incorporate from the Ultimates version would be the girtle (definitely NOT the same "futuristic" design). Along with Mjolner, it's a literal source of his Godly strength (according to the mythology).
stupify_me
stupify_me - 6/12/2009, 4:29 PM
joshw24 sorry Joshw24, but non of those things are as Cheesy as Thor running around with his cape. Especially Spiderman and the Dead Pool thing. One Spiderman is a classic icon everyone knows who he is and his costume. Two the general audience didn't give a crap about how deadpool looked. Most of them had no idea who he was anyway and since in the movie he looked like a guy with his mouth sewn shut they had nothing to complain about unless they were comic readers. The Thing is a guy covered in rocks it's who he is. That's his power his ability. Thor is a super strong god who controls thunder. His cape is not his power.
