D23 EXPO: Description Of New THOR: THE DARK WORLD Footage

Fans were a little disappointed (to put it mildly) at the lack of Star Wars news at the D23 Expo today, but we did get a new clip from the upcoming Thor sequel, featuring Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. The description might be considered a bit SPOILERY..

Disney calmed down some pretty miffed Star Wars fans at the D23 Expo by quickly moving on to Marvel. After the footage from SDCC was shown, Kevin Feige introduced Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins who had a brand new clip for us. Here's a nice detailed description from Bleeding Cool:

This one showed Jane Foster in Asgard, being analysed by whatever means the Asgardians have instead of medical science. There’s a piece of kit in the scene that the magic-minded Asgardians see as a “soul forge” but Foster calls “a quantum field generator.” There’s some kind of “dark energy” inside Foster and, apparently, it’s transforming to better defend itself. It’s the kind of plot point that only makes sense when seen as magic, but hey – it establishes that Foster is in grave danger this time around. And I wonder if they’ll be playing this as some kind of pregnancy metaphor? Seems like real a possibility. The romance between Foster and Thor is clearly central to the scene, with Odin pleased to see Foster, and her exclaiming to Thor, “You told your Dad about me?!”

i kinda viewed iron man 3 as kinda an epilogue to phase 1 cause it started with iron man and then ends with him, i think marvel should have counted that as phase 1

Since nothing has ever leaked from a Disney expo i have no hope we might get a glimpse of this. But, still hoping for a SDCC leak if that footage. Trailer was a great appetizer!

Can't wait for this, trailer was awesome but now we have a better understanding as to why Jane is so central to the plot

@LordMushu

They showed Guardians of the Galaxy footage. From what I understand it was the same footage as Comic-Con's though nevertheless still highly impressive. And for the record they also showed a new scene from Captain America: The Winter Soldier that had Captain America and Black Widow having a conversation about dating (it's not what you think) with an great action scene of Captain America dispatching some guys.

Meh. I really could not care less about Jane/the love triangle/romance in Thor 2. Give me action, not sappy crap.

@LadyLauki

They'll be action. But the hero has to have something to fight for and they're giving Thor plenty.

unless it doesn't happen when I see the movie I think Loki will get killed by kurse, and end up in Hel. Then the last scene of the movie will be Loki standing in front of Hela having some type of conversation. Hela will be in shadow but we will see her helmet and outline etc.

i do like how the phase 2 movies are and sound different from each other,Iron man 3 was an action comedy with elements of social commentary ,satire,a detective story and thriller,Thor 2 sounds like Dark fantasy with sci fi elements,Cap 2 sounds very much like a bourne type politicial thriller and Guardians is a space adventure film,cool, keeps it interesting and fresh

I actually like that (and it's perhaps the only way I could accept Loki being killed LOL)

Yes, I know. I'm just bringing out my inner grumpy old woman. That and the love triangle they've been hinting at is BS.

It looks like thor shouldn't have put the hammer down on jane. Maybe cross species relationship aren't a good idea.

@LadyLauki

Love triangles rarely aren't BS. Not only are too often badly done in movies but even when they're done well, you realize the only reason it had came to a triangle in the first place because someone didn't have their shit together.

i was dissapointed no new guardians footage was shown and no casting for groot and rocket but , hopefully marvel studios will be at new york comic con to show more Cap and guardians footage cause guardians would probbaly be close to done by then at least in the filming side

This movie looks ok. The villain looks like shite though. I hope it's good. I enjoyed the first one, mostly the scenes on Asgard

I have a feeling Jane's gonna die in this one.
Or move somewhere far away.

Natalie Portman desperately tried to get out of doing this movie Since I hear they pretty much "Forced" her to return, mostly because of Patty Jenkins firing I think.

I doubt they'll force her once again to do another sequel.

BYE JANE.
I always thought Portman as Jane was quite bland anyway, you could tell that she didn't wanna be there.

I'm not familiar with Thor's history or his love interests.
I don't hear a defining one like Tony with Pepper, or Captain America and Peggy/Sharon , Bruce and Betty.

Does Thor have any other major love interests?
