The name Joseph Gatt made headlines everywhere when it was revealed that he had been cast into an undisclosed role for the upcoming Thor movie. And Back in January, Gatt revealed a few specs to his role with
Screenrant, summed up:
* He’s a villain
* Action-oriented role
* Gives Thor lots of trouble
* Has scenes with Loki
* Has sweet weapons
* Is an Asgardian warrior
After that many speculated that Joseph Gatt would be portraying “Skurge the Executioner“(pictured above). And not to mention, he looks like the character. BUT While this is still possible, another potential role fitting his look, and his character’s description is out there. The sometimes untrustworthy, IMDB, has listed the actor to be
“Grundroth”(pictured below alongside actor)
In the Thor comics, Grundroth was the leader of a group of frost giants, which has been confirmed to appear in the movie. In a specific issue, it included
some events that could easily be included in the movie as well.
These Giants, led by Grundroth, attempted to kill Loki, who was saved through the intervention of the thunder god Thor. In retaliation, Grundroth led the others to Earth where they contacted Jormungand, the Midgard Serpent and induce him to battle their enemy Thor for them. Thor slew the Serpent in a tremendous battle in which the Asgardian himself was reduced to a mass of pulped flesh, which was still alive due to a curse put on Thor by the goddess Hela that made him incapable of dying. Grundroth planned to take Thor's body back to Jotunheim and claim rulership of the Frost Giants as his reward for besting the thunder god. Loki then tricked one of Grundroth's Giants, Siggorth, into infusing his life force into the virtually invincible Destroyer, which then slew Grundroth and the rest of the Giant band.
With the Executioner still being possible, I think "Grundroth" will be Joseph Gatt's role indeed, simply because the executioner is famous character, and with all the other characters & things promised for the movie, he wouldn't have much screen time to do all the things he says his character does. But what do you think?
