Official Thor Movie News: The Warriors Three Have Been Cast!

The Asgardian adventurers have been officially cast. Oh heck yeah!

Thor director Kenneth Branagh has signed Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano to play The Warriors Three.

The Warriors Three are made up of the Asgardians Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg.

Fandral the Dashing: is a warrior of Asgard and an adventurer. He is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions; as perennially pointed out by the gloomy Hogun. Fandral considers himself the consummate ladies' man and is often depicted with a bevy of young ladies. His actual success with these ladies is intermittent at best, but as such provides numerous opportunities for humorous results. Despite these flaws, he possesses an excessively noble spirit and will do the right thing without thought to his personal safety or prosperity.

Hogun the Grim: The only thing known about his past is that he's not an Aesir like most of the Asgardians. Also, his unnamed homeland was conquered long ago by Mogul of the Mystic Mountain, who slew Hogun's forebears and laid waste to the land. He is primarily characterized by his brusque, taciturn, and often short-tempered demeanor. He is the brooding pessimist of the group, as opposed to Volstagg's irrepressible good humor and Fandral's brash heroism. He is a fierce and unrelenting warrior, a collector of weaponry and often the voice of reason for the Warriors Three.

Volstagg the Valiant: His origin beyond being a member of the Asgardian race, a warrior and adventurer, and a friend of Thor has not been revealed. Volstagg is fairly advanced in age for an Asgardian, and it has been suggested that he was a highly respected and feared warrior in his prime.

Marvel's Thor also stars: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and Stellan Skarsgard; with Samuel L. Jackson returning as Nick Furr.

Filming starts next January; the release date is set for May 20th, 2011.

Sweet I love Ray Stevenson! He's not someone who immediately screams volstag, but I trust he'll be great. He showed he could do humor really well in Rome, this movie just keeps getting better and better.

Great news Leee@! Thor is shaping up fantastic!
Kenneth Branagh knows what he 's doin' with classical
characters like this! His casting has been right on
the money for Marvel's Thor! Chris Hemsworth looks
exactly like the traditional Thor that Jack Kirby
originally depicted!

I'm half Norwegian so all this Norse mythology has
got my warriors blood pumping! Now if they get Conan
The Cimmirian right my Keltic warrior within will be
satisfied too! By CROM and ODIN, bring on the warriors!
bring on the Mayhem!

DDD @ Thanx and yeah i would've been worried if we didn't have KENNETH BRANAGH at the helm, we might've got a sh1tty Ultimate version of THOR instead of the real deal! ; D

And heck yeah, bring on CONAN!!

TEA @ SHIB @ You cant be serious?! WARZONE sucked on so many levels!! TOM JANE is THE PUNISHER! ; )

Lol cheers TEA!!

Eh? What happend to Brian Blessed? he would have been so perfect for Volstagg, he already looks like the dude and he's a great actor. what a wasted oppertunity!now we have to put up with another fat suit like the Blob.
Henrycat

A good example of a thor story (that could translate to film) would be the "Thor Reign of Blood" and "Thor man of war".
the first gives a feel of thor story and sets up him raging against his father and humans, and the second makes him go against his father and be stuck in his blake persona redeeming himself.

I'm with you Kes, Spiderman 4 looking more and more blurry, just as we think Lizard ís going to appear to save the franchise, some odd news comes along with a 2-3 year old ginger, I'm mean WTF?
But Thor, oh yeah, is gonna rock every fanboy's sweet ass..

JoshWilding - 11/17/2009, 4:36 AM
Great find LEE! :D

Personally I probably would have liked to see Brian Blessed cast as Volstagg but the guy above has more of a warrior look about in comparison to Blessed who may have made Volstagg more comical! I'm not sure why they've chosen an Asian actor for one of the members but I cant say that bothers me in the least! As for the other guy, well he looks like Fandral if thats who he's supposed to be playing!? To be honest I havent seen any of these guys act but Branagh's cating chouces have been stellar so far so I'm not too worried!

Now if only we could start getting some Captain America casting announcements!
DeathWalker
DeathWalker - 11/17/2009, 4:54 AM
Thank god Shibazz that you said that about Ray. I liked the Punisher War Zone movie and I thought Ray was more like the Punisher then Thomas Jane. Before anybody goes crazy at me I am a long time Punisher fan (I have the Tattoo's to prove it)I thought Ray was perfect for Frank, the movie could have been a lot better though, but I am glad I am not the only one that thought Ray was a good Punisher.......Thank you again Shibazz, and if anybody wants to argue I am ok with that i am a big boy and can take the punishment.....but just not to much i am fragile a little. LOL

The guys gonna need one hell of a fat suit though if they're going to copy the comic books Volstagg... ;)

@ Josh: It's definitely a bad movie but if your a Punisher fan or even a Marvel fan at all I would say it's a must see.

Actually I am stunned that you haven't seen it! You heretic! lol
DeathWalker
DeathWalker - 11/17/2009, 6:42 AM
I agree with Teabag 100% it is a Punisher Movie yeah it had its flaws, but It was Frank Castle to a "T". I am glad there are more of us who liked War Zone then I thought. Josh go check it out for yourself and let us know what you thought.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/17/2009, 6:45 AM
teabag & DarthMulder & DeathWalker: Lol, everyone kept saying how awful it was so I just never bothered buying it! Personally I thought the first movie was a pile of old crap especially with Travolta as the movie's villain...I think I'll pick up Warzone on blu-ray now though - thanks for the info guys! :)
ASSASSIN666
ASSASSIN666 - 11/17/2009, 6:58 AM
I think I'm gonna like Thor more than the Avengers! In regards to Warzone, it was violent, just the way I like it. I want Wolverine vs Punisher real bad.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 11/17/2009, 7:00 AM
WAR ZONE is Sh1t ,,,, no way should they of killed MICRO in his first appearance on the big screen! Or even JIGSAW for that matter!! No true PUNISHER fan can truly luv that movie!!

A one and a half Punisher Task Force, catching FRANK? It was a total joke from start to finish, yeah i could go on lol, but i wont, its a THOR article lol! ; D

But with that WOLVERINE and VENOM in SPIDEY 3 that a trio of favorites [frick]ed UP by HOLLYWOOD!! In PUNISHER (2005), they may of mess with it big time but it wasn't a cluster [frick] as WARZONE! Bring back JANE!!!

Saying that, RAY playing PUNISHER himself, was to a "T" but thats not an exuse for what that movie was, crap!!

Yeah you might've noticed im a huge PUNISHER fan, got nearly every comic published, well of the regular titles anyway! HOLLYWOOD meh lol.

Anyway not dissing RAY, he'll make a good, whoever he's playing in THOR, he's a good actor, jus see ROME but [frick] him being PUNISHER again lol!

JOSH @ Cheers man, an BRIAN all the way dammit!! : D
