Stellan Skarsgard was interviewed today, and he spilled the beans, stating that he has been cast in Thor, for a part that he can't reveal. The source isn't in English, so here it is translated:

"Stellan Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie "Thor."

He will thus play against Hollywood star Natalie Portman.

The film, based on a comic book about the god Thor fighting criminals in today's world, is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Everything is still secret about the script and Skarsgård can not reveal what role he will play.

'They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy,' says Stellan Skarsgård to TT spectra.

Some time ago it was said that Stellan Skarsgård's son, Alexander Skarsgård, was on its way to the title role in "Thor." In the end however, it became Chris Hemworth, known from "Star Trek" who got the job.

The filming of "Thor" begins in spring 2010, with planned theatrical release in May 2011."

You guys dont think it could be Donald Blake could you? Because a while back people were mentioning how they may need two different actors for Thor and Blake, I hope not, he may be one of the Warriors Three, Fandral, he kinda looks like him

I'd love to see Stellan as Odin. He fits perfectly with someone like Branagh.

All I know is Stellan is perfect for a part in Thor! He is a great classical actor! These pics are from King Arthur with Clive Owen and Keira Knightley.

This cast is impressive and Thor is gonna rock like Lightning & Thunder across the sky!

Still pissed that Alexander Skarsgard wasn't cast as Thor. @DarthMulder who was your original preference for Thor, just curious.

MULTI: Yeah, I actually thought about that after posting that comment! Still, the movie might not delve into that so they could cast a slightly older actor..!? However, its pretty hard to try and guess really as there are so many Gods this guy could be playing, lol!

Guys, head over to "Features" and vote for who you want as Daredevil!

only found imdb refering to blessed as odin, there does not seem to be any other articles that i could find.
blessed would be awsome as odin but skarsgard for me would be a better fit for the sort of style marvel are going for these days.blessed would be good for the movie if it was going for an all out cheese fest imo

Yep Tbag, Gunsmith and Grtman called it.

They have indeed officially cast the excellent Brian Blessed for the role of Odin, King of The Gods. He was in fact the bird man leader dude in Flash Gordon.

And Simonson rules,

I honestly can't remember who I liked originally. Of the lot Skarsgard was one of my favorites though. He was one of the few that didn't look like a puny little kid.

As lame as this may seem I just always think they should try to match the body type and physical look of the actor to the character because comics are sucha visual medium.
To that end I sort of wanted them to get someone with some muscle bulk. But of course I don't know of any really good actors that have that going on so it was hard for me to take hard line on anybody in particular.

StephenStrange

as far as Skarsgard the elder for Fandral.. He's a hansome man but probably too old.

He could maybe play a younger Odin.. like if they have a sequence telling the origin of Loki they would need to depict a younger Odin.

@ Ryden: I think most people would say that is highly unlikely. BUT it would explain why they haven't announced who he is going to play. That would be a slippery subversive move on the part of Branaugh. And Ultimates fans would be beside themselves with misery. They would almost certainly turn against the movie altogether.
But anyway that's probably not it.

I still think they should've used the Skarsgård father and son as Thor & Odin.

Alexander Skarsgård would have made an awesome THOR!!!

@ talontd

i didn't even think of that, but that would have been cool. a lot of people wanted him to play thor to begin with

@CORNDOG

Yea, i kinda thought it was a no brainer, especially with his recent success on TRUE BLOOD. That and the fact that he was a stage actor for so long made me think that BRANAUGH would love him.....i guess he just didn't screen test well for it.

I personally think he would have OWNED the part.
