Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, "Thor," which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It's while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

"HEIMDALL: The gatekeeper and sworn guardian of Asgard, Heimdall can focus his extraordinary senses on any world across the cosmos, seeing and hearing all that transpires. These gifts, along with his intimidating size and battle prowess, make him the only Asgardian fit to keep watch for potential threats and defend his kingdom from those who would destroy it."

THOR is set to hit theatres on May 6!

I love this one except the writing on the face. His helmet reminds me of a front view of the head of the Alien Queen from Aliens.

Right you are. Not just in comics but in the actual mythology. There just aren't any African gods is Norse mythology. I'm all for bringing things up to date but that one puzzles me. This is NORSE mythology. It's about as white bread as you can get. Sven and Ole. It just doesn't make any sense to me. No more than if this were about ancient African gods and they threw in a blonde haired, Blue eyed deity.

Now they could get around that by losing the whole Norse mythology backround of the characters but that's pretty much the root of what they are.

@niknik We've been through that, dude. Don't bring that topic here, there are a lot of dumb people who will say you're a racist. Can you imagine what would happen if you threw a blonde deity in an african gods movie??? forget it man! you would be the most racist guy ever.

I'm not really liking these posters very much. They feel a little over dramatic. I can almost hear a wrestling announcer saying "THE. GOD. OF. THUNDERRRRR!!!"
Someone should make a poster saying something like "THE BLACK NORSE GOD" for Heimdall. Then we can send it to that white supremacist group that got all pissed off about the caasting.

For everyone saying that people would freakout if a white person we cast as an african god. Well maybe not, because there are white africans, you know. People shouldn't assume that all africans are dark skinned folk. I for one wouldn't care at all if they cast a white person as an african god. If anything I think it would be cool that a producer, director, casting manager or whatever cast someone for talent rather than worrying so much about the look. Or better yet, they felt the person had the talent and the look, but the person just so happen to be white. I mean, for goodness sakes it shouldn't matter, it's not like Thor has been cast as a hispanic man or some random asian guy was cast as Peter Parker in the reboot. Here we have a first time live action adaptation of Thor, so there is no real obligation except to the comics, but since changes are made for the big screen there is and always should be leeway for making extra changes where it is seen fit. Though lets not bring up extreme cases like the X-men movies following the first two.

@Akercocke

yeah, u realise alot of them Norse gods in the mythology adopt. also in Norse mythology they Hemdall and Sif aint brother and sister only in the comics they brother and sister. maybe in this movie they might or might not make them related.
niknik

How in the hell does stating the fact that there are no African deities in Norse Mythology make me a douchebag? It's stating a fact. Whether or not you like it doesn't change it. There aren't any. It's a change they made for this film. All I said is that it doesn't make sense to me if you want to stick to the canon. They would have to change the basis that they are indeed the NORSE gods in order to make it seem logical and realistic. Make them something else. That's all. I didn't say it was good or bad. Just stating a fact.

Man, some of you guys are pretty reckless with that race card. Shame on you.

I'm actually surprised. Nobody has said Elba playing Heimdall is pretty racist. At the end of the day Heimdall is a doorman, the porter of the gods! OMG OMG OMG Shame on you Kenneth Branagh Elba should have been Thor, I mean why is Elba, a black guy, the porter of the gods!!! RACIST RACIST RACIST!!!

"In Norse polytheism, Thor (from Old Norse Þórr) is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, destruction, fertility, healing, and the protection of mankind". SUUUUUUURE Thor has nothing norse about it, just the name, the hammer (Mjolnir), the Asgard concept, the rest of the gods's names... Don't be ridiculous people seriously.
