Chris Hemsworth has had an incredible run as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's God of Thunder. He's appeared in three solo movies and four Avengers team-ups, and will next be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 along with a fourth solo outing in Thor: Love and Thunder.
It's no secret that Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will transform into the Mighty Thor in the latter blockbuster, but are Hemsworth's days as this iconic hero nearly at an end?
Talking during an appearance on The Today Show in Australia, the actor was asked if he plans to follow in Tom Holland's footsteps by signing up for more Marvel Studios movies. "[Laughs] How many Spider-Mans has he done? He's a little behind me. I think he's done three. I've done six or seven Thors, so maybe," Hemsworth responded. "As long as they'll have me, I'll turn up, but I feel like that enthusiasm [for me] might be waning."
After the hosts assured him that's not the case and that no one wants him to step down as Thor, Hemsworth thanks his Australian supporters, joking: "Internationally, they may be going, 'Get rid of him! Get someone else!'"
That's 100% not the case, and we're hopeful there is a future for the Asgardian beyond his next movie. What that could look like remains to be seen, though, especially with Thor set to square off with Gorr the God Butcher (a villain who, in the comic books, pushes the hero to his limits).
Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8, 2022.
