Thor: Love and Thunder will clearly be another very funny MCU movie, but that doesn't mean it won't be a little more serious in places. Nor does it mean director Taika Waititi won't take this opportunity to better explore this world's complicated mythology, something that's evident from the screenshot below.
As you can see, Jane Foster's Mighty Thor is standing amidst a number of statues that appear to pay homage to some incredibly powerful cosmic entities.
We've lightened the image for you to take a closer look at, and we can quite easily identify Death, The Living Tribunal, Infinity, and Eon.
As the name suggests, Death is the Marvel Universe's personification of death and someone who, in the comic books, was frequently courted by Thanos. As for The Living Tribunal, he's a character Marvel Studios has now teased on a number of occasions. A single entity existing across the entire Multiverse, he's the arbitrator of cosmic justice.
Infinity represents the infinite potential of existence and Eon was one of the first beings in the universe who later chose his champions and endowed them with the Quantum Bands to protect the universe.
However, there's another familiar face there whose presence definitely surprises us. That is The Watcher, a character we've seen portrayed by Jeffrey Wright in What If...? While there are other Watchers, that looks an awful lot like Uatu, and we can't help but wonder if a long-overdue live-action debut for the character is finally on the horizon.
Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
