THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Will Finally Reveal Story Behind Why Thor And Jane Foster Broke Up

Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman have confirmed that Thor: Love and Thunder will finally reveal the true story behind why the God of Thunder and Jane Foster ended their relationship way back in 2014.

While Thor featured something of a whirlwind romance for the titular God of Thunder and Jane Foster, it felt like the two star-crossed lovers were meant for each other. Thor: The Dark World drove that point home, though 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron suggested they had broken up.

We've never learned the true story behind what happened, of course, and by the time Thor: Love and Thunder is released, it will have been nearly a decade since Thor and Jane shared the screen.

Talking in the latest issue of D23 Magazine (via The Direct), Chris Hemsworth hinted that we will see flashbacks that reveal why Thor and Jane's relationship simply didn't end up working out.

"There actually wasn't a whole lot of evidence to definitively say, 'This is how they broke up. This is what happened.' It was left open for interpretation, which was great because it allowed us to go on this fun journey; 'What did their relationship look like when they were together? What did it look like when they were breaking up? Why did they break up?' It's some of the funniest stuff in the film."

His co-star Natalie Portman added, "It was really fun to get to imagine the parts of their relationship we hadn't seen...and the hard parts of a scientist dating an otherworldly superhero."

Needless to say, we can't wait to learn more about why this romance didn't pan out and whether there's a chance for them to reconnect. In reality, Portman stepped away from the MCU for her own reasons (including Marvel Studios' "creative differences" with original Thor: The Dark World director Patty Jenkins), though the chance to wield Mjolnir has obviously tempted her back.

If the MCU is adapting Jane's cancer storyline, however, we can't help but wonder whether her time with Thor will be limited following this reunion in the upcoming blockbuster.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to blast into theaters on July 8!

Lot's of people seem to have issues with the humor, but fail it see the irony of how a super serious Thor has been the butt of the jokes forever in the comics and the early movies. I'm glad they are doing more than the fish out of water stuff we've seen so many times before.

Fun isn't a bad thing people, it might do some of you some good.

@Itwasme - fun is good, but not when you're talking about Ragnarok? Or Gorr or cancer? Lmao having a lobotomy is also fun 🥴

@bobevanz - so you want Thor: The Philadelphia Story? That would be worse... thats like saying Jojo Rabbit shouldn't be taken seriously. Just because it has humor doesn't mean it's not covering serious topics. One doesn't negate the other.

They have completely cucked Thor.

@MitcHendricks - How so? by making him self-aware? You' rather an emotionally distant Thor who is oblivious to the world around him? He's a nearly indestructible god physically, breaking him down emotionally and focusing on that side of his journey makes total sense. If he's invulnerable physically make him vulnerable emotionally.

Probably when Thor caught Steve Rogers jamming an infinity stone back into Jane during Thor: Dark World.

I wrote this sarcastically but would probably fit Waititi's humor..
