Over at Movieline, from the recent press junket for Marvel & Kenneth Branagh's epic adventure THOR, the star Chris Hemsworth & 'Loki' actor Tom Hiddleston spoke more on reprising their roles in Marvel's The Avengers.

“I think the thing that looks like a challenge is actually the reason it will work,” said Hiddleston,“As in, how can one movie contain so many different flavors and colors and characters? I think Joss Whedon has probably made that a strength,” he continued. “The conflict between each of them will be something that will be expanded on.”

Hemsoworth says, “We don’t balance all the other characters, it’s the writer and Joss Whedon, who’s the writer and director. His job is to sort of navigate that. We come in and help him, and that’s all you can really concern yourself with. But I definitely think it will be an interesting combination. As Tom said, why it will work is that conflict and those larger than life characters and egos clashing. There’s some great tension there.”

Additionally, Marvel Studios' head honcho Kevin Fiege, spoke up on a potential standalone Thor sequel, surly of it's development.

“Listen… we’ve got 600+ issues, we’ve got a thousand years of mythology — we have other stories we’d like to tell,” Feige said. “The audience will tell us whether they’d like to see those other stories, but we have to be prepared for that, if we should get the call.”

“Don Payne is working on story ideas for a Part Two, We’ve got various options with Ken [Branagh] to discuss coming back, but right now the focus is on the first one. Don is, slowly but surely, thinking about where to take the character next should we be so lucky.”

Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. And Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Stellan Skarsgård and Tom Hiddleston, the film releases May 6!

I love how Tom Hiddleston talks as if he's known all along that he would antagonize the Avengers. The bastard was lying to us this whole time!

P.S. Beta Ray Bill for the Thor sequel!

I hope that Surtur, Hela, Amora the Enchantress, and Skurge the Executioner are in the Thor sequel, as well.

@marvel72...I vote the absorbing man as well....the early Journey into Mystery had him throughout and a big thorn in Thor's side...especially on earth with that big ball and chain and the ability to absorb any material would be a tough battle....he also went to Asgard and absorbed Odin's power and sent it right back at him....would be a good character

Beta Ray Bill would be awesome, and I @PuyGuy it's spelled "surtur" or "surthur".
Also would suck if no Odin.

Enchantress. That would be awesome.

And I'm sure there will be a sequel. This film was incredible. I would easily put it over all the other Marvel films to date. I can't wait to see it again and again.

I am hoping Walt Simonson's Ragnarok Saga should definitely be the sequel. It should be a two-part movie with the ending showing Odin falling down with Surter. The third one would be Thor's journey to Hel as well as facing Jormungand and being Thor the Destroyer

I won't get excited just yet...it is far from a done deal...If you read Kevin Feige's comment, he said that "The audience will tell us whether they’d like to see those other stories...", meaning, it has to be successful. Nothing is set in stone just yet. The foreign gross is great, and I am happy with it, but Fast Five is more impressive, given that they only opened in 14 countries (compared to Thor's 56), they beat Thor in all the 10 countries they opened at the same time, and factoring the higher price of 3D tickets, Fast Five definitely had more audience (in the countries where both simultaneously opened).

But c'est la vie...I just hope and pray that it opens huge in the US and it sustains a healthy gross revenue on it's second week...

In the event that we do get a sequel (I hope)...I do not thing a Beta Ray Bill story is the way to go. First, that story was told because Walt Simonson wanted to remove the 60 second limit, and to tell a tale where Thor finally learned his lesson in humility...in the movie, that will not work. Thor was humbled enough during the first one. To have some alien looking character beat him then wield mjolnir, then get his own hammer, will occupy too much of the movie, and it would not have progressed Thor's character any.

Instead of that...why not a 2-movie (shot simultaneously, to be released 6 months apart) telling the story of RAGNAROK:Twilight of the Gods, introducing classic characters like Kurse, Mangog, Malekith, Hela, Ulik and the Trolls, and SURTUR? Remember, Chris Hemsworth is signed on for 6 films only - 3 thor, 3 avengers. Avengers will surely get sequels...Thor on the otehr hand is still up in the air. But if we do get one (or two) why not tell the most epic tale, ever? What can be more epic than the end of everything? Not a tale of a space horse, surely.

Since Anthony Hopkins is getting up there in age, I would like to see them do the Walt Simonson Surtur storyline next. That way, it's an epic tale which ends up with Odin and Surtur get locked in battle in Surtur's realm, and then Thor passes on becoming King and gives the throne to Balder.
Then for part 3, RAGNOROK!
