The Chuck actor was originally up for the role of Fandral in the first Thor, but had to bow out. Now that Dallas has to do the same for the sequel, THR report that Marvel have their eye on him once again..

Hot off the heels of the announcement that Josh Dallas would not be returning to play Fandral in Thor 2, we have the news on his possible replacement. THR report that Chuck himself Zachary Levi is the man Marvel want to take over the role in the sequel to Kenneth Branagh's original, this time directed by Game Of Thrones' Alan Taylor.



Levi was originally up for the role back in 2010 anyway, but commitments to his tv show Chuck kept him from it. Ironically enough it's the exact same situation - only his show is Once Upon A Time - preventing Dallas from reprising. According to THR "Levi’s talks are in at an early stage - negotiations have not yet begun, according to sources - but an offer is imminent."

Put a 'stache on him and dye his hair and I'm fine with this choice. I had the pleasure of meeting him at Comic-Con last year and he is definitely a nerd so he will do the role justice.

Listen, Marvel, it's okay if you don't use the Warriors Three in the sequel of Thor, I wouldn't mind. Although I was hoping for them to have screen time in the sequel, I don't mind at all if they don't use those three, since we have reports of this Chuck actor 'replacing' Joshua Dallas.

If they want to work with Levi, they should save him for a lead role. The guy is already 6'4, just put some more muscle on him and he'd make a great lead hero. I don't know who, but he's a young, dark haired, goodlooking guy. I'm sure there are plenty Marvel heroes who fit that description.

Sorry if it looks like I'm coming off as a jerk. It's just my opinion about this guy. I just think that (even though Joshua's role as Fandral was minor) Dallas' portrayal was great. He really did have the 'dashing' looks for Fandral and, in my opinion, he was perfect for Fandral. :)

The Warriors Three looked ridiculous in Thor (I loved the movie), Halloween suits, fake beards and bad dye jobs.

And if I was this guy I'd hold out for a Marvel superhero.

I hate recasting. Why not just have some mention of why he's not there and try to get Dallas again for the third one?

@bhorwith22, maybe they have to recast. I mean, the movie starts filming in less than a month, so the script has long been written. We were told that the other characters like Heimdall, Sif and The Warriors Three would have expanded roles as they don't have to go through an origin again. They have more time to explore the other characters.

We just now learned Dallas can't return, so short of recasting the role, they'd have to go back and actually rewrite the film to remove Fandral. That's not really an alternative. That would actually delay the film.

Doesn't matter. If Marvel thinks he can pull the character off that's all that matters. They haven't disappointed me with a replacement actor yet. I doubt they will.

Damn, some of you guys complain about everything! He'll do fine, and the warriors 3 were important in the first movie despite not having much screentime in the final cut. So it's only natural they return for the sequel, get over it!

doesn't really matter, Fandral isnt that big of a replacement like Ruffalo as Banner or Cheadle as Rhodey. i like Zachary Levi, but i rather would have Josh Dallas.

but again, it doesnt really matter if i Marvel came down to picking just those two

Meh, I don't like this. Josh Dallas was perfect as Fandral, but I'm sure Marvel will make it work. I would rather see Balder in a movie. This messes with my continuity. >.< I hate recasting.

Considering he was in the running before and seems like he would've had the role if not for chuck, marvel mustve saw something they liked. They have pretty good casting record to date

i know he's in Rapunzel..but, come ON...he's NO Fandral. it'd be laughable seeing him with the Errol Flynn coif and goat-tee..

Dallas was just right for it, that's why he was cast in that tv show of his, in the first place. he just FITS this type of character. good thing Stuart Townsend backed off.

i don't mind marvel recasting the part, or all the warriors three, for that fact. these 3 roles aren't like Banner or Rhodey, where you'd actually feel some impact from the recasting. but, make sure the replacements are BETTER suited and not all wrong for the respective roles.

Ha! You people make me laugh. Obviously those who are whining have never watched Chuck and realised that Zachary Levi is perfect for this role. When he was casted for Tangled, he done it by using a British accent (and a perfect one). Even though Josh Dallas kind of created the role. Levi will give the role just as much justice as Dallas did.

I think Zachary is a solid actor, but he will look ridiculous as a blonde. Assuming they would want him as a blonde.

An Asgard-based Thor 2 needs to have the Warriors Three.
