More Details On That In Development The Boys Movie

Not much more unfortunately, but Darrick Robertson, the artist behind The Boys, has talked to MTV about the movie's progress......

We already heard a little about the project a couple of weeks ago from the screenwriters, but all we know for sure is that there is a first draft, and(hopefully) the wheels are in motion and we will get to see Wee Hughie, Mother's Milk etc do very violent things to Super Heroes on the big screen. Robertson elaborates..

"I had a nice meeting with the people at Kickstart [the film's producers] and they were really cool," Robertson told MTV News. "I can say that I think it’s in good hands over there. Apparently, the first draft of the screenplay is great. They’re very happy with the first draft and everybody is very enthusiastic about it."

Although neither himself nor Garth Ennis are directly involved with the movie version of their creation, they are being kept in the loop..

"We’ll get a draft of that to read soon, but they were very open to me saying I’d like to be involved," he explained. "I feel very confident — especially when we discussed the screenplay — that it’s faithful and they really are happy with it. They wanted it to be faithful and the writers seem to have delivered."

"When they told me stuff that was in the script, it was all scenes from the comic,"
he added.

"That’s the first draft, so that can turn around before you see it on screen, but I was enthusiastic just to hear they were being so faithful at the start, If that’s what they’re starting with, then we’re in good shape."

Sounds promising indeed. I just hope Robertson isn't doing a "Mark Millar" on it and praising something that has hardy a thing in common with the original story a la that watered down tripe Wanted. But somehow I doubt it. One thing is for sure though, if The Boys makes a completely faithful in every respect translation to film, it may very well be banned!

Here's short synopsis of what its about.

The Boys are a black-ops CIA groups created to monitor superheroes, they hate everything related to the "supes". They've all got super-strength, and aren't afraid to knock the head off a superhero who pisses them off. Ennis' story focuses on The Boys' newest recruit, Simon Pegg-lookalike Wee Hughie, who goes from being a UFO conspiracy theorist to having the ability to punch through a man's stomach overnight. The Boys is Hughie's story, coming to terms with an essentially broken world and determining how much someone with no limits or consequences can change that.

Its pretty good most of the time..sometimes its great, but then sometimes Ennis can't help going too over the top or sticking in one dick.fart joke too many. I'm only up to issue 30 so I have another 9 to catch up on sharpish. Check it out if your a Preacher fan though. And if you haven't heard of Preacher..hear of it soon!

Why does hollywood have to [frick] everything up?!!!! They already made a Watchmen movie and I feel like the boys is just exploitation off of the same damn vein. Why doesn't Hollywood make the frazkking Highlander movie and stop making great comicbooks into lackluster films.

I wonder if the Supes are going to be the same, though.

Garth managed to get away with a lot of turning established characters into demented andor perverted pastiches, but comic book publishers aren't as litigious as film companies.

True. They may have to tone it down a bit..but maybe thats not such a bad. After all, it worked in the comics..just about(personally I think it went over board) but i dunno about in a movie.

Very excited for this movie! If it is anything like the comic it will cause Kick-Ass to look like High School Musical by comparison.

The comics are awesome !!! but Hollywood would have to make a lot of cuts for this movie so it doesnt get a XXX rating. They would have to do this movie NC-17 to do it justice. And Hollywood wouldn't put alot of money behind a NC-17 rated movie. They wouldn't do the comic justice with a rated R movie.
