A zombie extra has her teeth detailed during production in June. Comic creator and series executive producer Robert Kirkman tells THR that the zombies "might be featured a bit differently" during Season 2. "If anything, they look better," he joked. "Everybody involved has learned a lot from the first season."
Andrew Lincoln in a sidelit moment on the set. Flashbacks during the series' second season will offer a hint of what Rick and Lori's relationship was like pre-apocalypse.
Zombie-accessorized extras socialize on the sidewalk in downtown Atlanta during filming. Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn, says filming in the rural areas of Atlanta frequently involve "tick checks." “You wake up, do a tick check – you check everywhere – you go to work, you take it all in and you sweat your butt off and then you come home and do another tick check,” he told fans during the summer at San Diego Comic-Con.
Andrew Lincoln, locked and loaded. “[Rick is] struggling with his sense of responsibility to the group,” Lincoln told THR this summer. “You’re not seeing the same heroic, confident, sure-footed guy you saw in pockets in the first season. He’s actually a guy who is doubting himself. He makes one terrible decision very early on in the season which has massive repercussions for the group."
A zombie extra and a special effects makeup artist between takes. Says Kirkman: "The second season is going to far exceed expectations, and it’s going be a pretty awesome season of TV. I think there’s some pretty crazy twists and turns along the way that people won’t be expecting. I think it’s going to be blowing people away."
A zombified extra holds a prop limb. Season 2 of the drama will open Oct. 16 with a 90-minute premiere starting at 9 p.m. The season will also be split in two, with the second half of the season kicking off Feb. 12 at 9 p.m.
Special effect makeup artist Gino Crognale touches up a dummy zombie. "[Zombies] that are in better shape get to eat and the ones who don't are not imbued with intelligence the way that we think of it, it's more instinctive," Hurd tells THR.
