Brandon Routh Talks More About Suiting Up As 'The Atom' In Arrow...Or Maybe THE FLASH!

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) is making his presence felt in Starling City as Ray Palmer, and he talks here about the suit he'll eventually don as The Atom and drops some hints about both how the character gets his shrinking powers AND possibly making the jump from Arrow to The Flash...

We already know that Ray Palmer will eventually suit up as The Atom, but where and when it will happen isn't clear just yet. However, it definitely sounds as if his origin story will be tied into The Flash and the explosion of the Particle Accelarator based on comments from the actor who plays him. "From the beginning, when I met with Marc [Guggenheim] and Andrew [Kreisberg], they mentioned that they were thinking of doing a flashback episode all about Ray, or just about the day that something happened in his life at the same time that it happened in other characters’ lives," Brandon Routh reveals. It's possible that he's talking about something else altogether, but this would be a smart way to give the character his extraordinary powers. Based on recent comments from Guggenheim, it appears as if we'll only see the former suit up again on The Flash

"Marc said that if the shrinking was going to happen, it’s more likely to be on ‘The Flash,’" the actor revealed. "But I have no knowledge of a crossover or any of that. ‘Arrow’ is very grounded in reality, so nobody really has any powers. That is a challenging thing, to have you bring a character like the Atom in, with his trademark thing being that he shrinks." As for the costume, he teased: "Just because he’s not shrinking doesn’t mean that he might not be doing something else, or be involved in some other kind of superhero-y way. I know that there is some type of suit thing happening, though I’m not at liberty to discuss much. But it looks cool, and I would be happy to wear it." Could he get his costume before his powers then or will they just now show him using them on Arrow? It's all very secretive right now, but share your thoughts and theories below!

I heard Brandon Routh and Ezra Miller are dating. Must be how Miller got the part as Flash.

CW Arrow format- use comic book character name, make characters nothing like namesake from the comics, put costume on it to make sure you realize which here they are. Call them something else to confuse you further. Randomly insert batman villain.

It wasn't his fault Superman Returns sucked. I thought he did a pretty good job. Imagine how hard it must have been to take your character seriously and act convincingly while wearing that costume.

@NetmanTripleSec I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Superman Returns. I approached the movie as a follow up to the Donner films and it wasn't that bad in that regard. I thought it was better than Man of Steel because it was fun to watch. Man of Steel had no humor and it really fatigued the audience with all the CGI.

@HAILHYDRA I guess you missed the part when Clark put that semi truck on top of some telephone poles. "I approached the movie as a follow up to the Donner films and it wasn't that bad in that regard." I could also say that when viewing Batman and Robin as a modern day take on the Adam West Batman it is not that bad. You Marvelites really suffer from diarrhea of the mouth and will say just about anything to trash MOS.

It is intresting how NetmanTrippleSec claims to be a diehard Superman fan and not bashing Superman Returns, with such a plotpoint like Superman carring a Island (when a gram of kryptonite can kill him :P)

@dunno1

To quote someone on this site, he can actually relax and focus on his acting craft on this show. Whereas on Superman Returns, he had the pressure of playing Superman...and constantly had to watch his ass around Singer.

Dmon - 10/16/2014, 2:57 PM
@McGee LOL I agree and the issue was that Singer wanted him to act like Reeves playing Superman/Clark Kent and Not make it his own or even acting like Superman from the comics.

@dmon if that part was humorous I would've mentioned it. But it wasn't the lack humor that killed that movie for me. It was how serious it was. To enjoy a movie about a superpowered alien who saves he world in blue tights, you have to suspend belief a little. But the problem is, Snyder showed what Superman would look like in the real world. I'm hoping BVS will feel different because Batman will be involved and the darkness will make sense. I feel like MOS was a Batman movie where Superman was the main character and Batman never appeared.

Anyone who thinks SR was a better movie than MOS, when all it succeeded in doing was putting a screeching halt to any interest in the Superman franchise (not to mention most of the careers of those involved), really shouldn't be contributing to this site.

I think he's been doing a great job on Arrow but everytime I see him on screen I don't think of Superman returns but Zack and miri make a porno. If you haven't seen it, look up his character on YouTube.
