GREEN ARROW AND THE CANARIES: The CW To Make A Decision On Series "Very, Very Soon"

Green Arrow and the Canaries wasn't among the shows announced for a January premiere, but Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim has shared a noteworthy update on the status of the comic book spinoff series!

When The CW announced its January premieres, there was no mention of planned Arrow spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries. Usually, these shows would return to the network in October, but they've been pushed back to next year after the coronavirus (COVID-19) massively delayed production.

Supergirl is coming back later than usual due to star Melissa Benoist's pregnancy, but Superman & Lois will fill the void with its series premiere in the New Year.

As for Green Arrow and the Canaries, The CW may finally be close to making a decision about the show as network President Mark Pedowitz recently reassured fans that they're still considering its future, while former Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim has told one fan on Twitter that, "We should receive word — one way or another — very, very soon."

It's unclear what the hold up is, but it's likely down to the pandemic and the network being careful not to spend too much money or make commitments to a series which won't pay off for them. There's a lot of interest in the show from fans, but Arrow ratings weren't strong near the end.

I didnt think I'd miss it as much but I definitely feel the void left by Arrow in the Arrowverse lineup. Dont get me wrong, Supergirl is consistently good, Flash was great this season and Legends never disappoints but Arrow was always a staple for me, good or bad. Just doesnt feel the same without it anymore. Hopefully they pick up GA and the Canaries to bring back some of that darker / grounded energy.

@Himura - If it doesn't get picked up, hopefully they resolve it some other way.
A tv movie
In one of the crossovers
maybe write Mia into a season of Legends and resolve whatever is going on there, like they did the Astra constantine stuff
Id even take an anmated movie, like Vixen and Freedom Fighters The Ray

Scratch that & give us this instead.

@kider - Well is seems like it will more or less be that, in everything but name, (Dinah is kind of more like the Huntress anyway). Would be cool if they changed the title though, plus they potentally have a character who can become the huntress.

@dracula - Huntress was in Arrow if i remember correctly. They could make Dinah Lady Blackhawk have her join the Blackhawk security they had in Arrow. That way they'd have:
Lady Blackhawk,
Huntress,
Black Canary,
Green Arrow

@kider - Yes Huntress was in Arrow, but this is set in the future and DC loves Legacy heroes. The pilot had Huntress's adopted daughter, wasn't in it much, and what we saw of her wasn't good, but depending if they keep her around and how well she is written, its possible she could be turned into a new Huntress.

Hopefully it gets picked up. If not, hopefully they resolve the plot in something we can actually watch. (a comic could work, but seriously how often do tv show tie ins stay in print)
Use it as the basis for a crossover
Do a TV movie
Add Mia to Legends Of Tomorrow for a season and resolve it there, like they did the Astra plot in from Constantine.
Do an animated movie, like Vixen and Freedom Fighters The Ray

Would suck if they just leave that hanging

@dracula - I found out recently that they are still making Buffy comics.

@kider - Yeah the new Buffy comics are great. Although really if they really have to wrap this up in a comic, I doubt it will be many issues. Id be surprised if its enough for a paperback. How long do you think that will be available

@dracula - Would mostly depend on the writing I guess. The Injustice Comics are a testament to that. I didn't expect that to have such a long run either.

It's kind of hard to imagine they hesitate this long and still pick it up (compared to their clear enthusiasm for Superman & Lois and clear commitment to keeping Batwoman going). I know many of these shows don't air at the same time, but we're in the neighborhood of something like 8 DC shows. If the successor to Arrow is struggling to gain a quick greenlight, there's probably a reason.

(He said, with literally zero insight into CW's inner workings or culture. I've been baffled by their decisions in the past, so I could easily be again.)

We don't need this series. Yes resolve the hanging elements but do it in legends. Would also work to make the arrow siblings part of the new roster to replace Sara and Ava, because everyone should already know that they are on their way out. Just like every other happy couple/duo before them.

Another shitty CW show on the way.

Supergirl is the only show left on the CW that I like so at this point I'll definitely give it a shot. I already miss the Arrow universe so at least this would have familiar faces.

I don't even see the point. Seems like they're slowly going off mission. They need to hurry up the Superman show and focus on turning Legends into the Legion.
