Doom Patrol fans were concerned that the excellent HBO Max series might be cancelled following its third season, but the most dysfunctional super-team in the DC Universe will be back for another sure-to-be chaotic adventure, and we have a first official look at season 4 right here.
The still introduces a brand-new character who'll be joining the misfit gang, Casey Brinke, AKA Space Case, played by The Nanny and Californication actress Madeline Zima.
"Casey is so beloved both by our writers on staff, and by fans of Doom Patrol in general," showrunner Jeremy Carver tells EW. "We finally found a way to bring her into the story in a way that feels wholly organic to us, even though to someone who's never seen Doom Patrol, it might seem a little bats--- insane. To us, it fits perfectly! And it's not just a cameo."
While the first three seasons of Doom Patrol were primarily influenced by Grant Morrison's '80s comic book run, Space Case's debut suggests that the show will be drawing inspiration from Gerard Way and Nick Derrington's more modern take on the team.
In the comics, Casey is closely connected to Danny the Street, and Carver promises that the upcoming season will feature "a very special episode" about Danny and the Danny-zens.
A premiere date for Doom Patrol season 4 has yet to be announced, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.
