FIREFLY Alum Morena Baccarin Discusses Her Roles In GOTHAM And THE FLASH

Morena Baccarin talks here about taking on the role of Dr. Leslie Thompkins in Gotham, revealing how closely her version of the character sticks to the comic books and the interior of Arkham Asylum. She also teases the return of "Gideon" in The Flash. Check it out!

In a recent interview with IGN TV, Morena Baccarin talked in detail about joining the cast of the Batman prequel and teased a return to Central City in The Flash. Gotham's version of Dr. Leslie Thompkins is described as a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane. In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters. In The Flash, she voices Dr. Harrison Wells' A.I. assistant "Gideon". For much more from the actress, click below.

On How Closely They're Sticking To The Source Material:

They're not sticking too close to the original mythology from the comics. Basically she and Jim meet at Arkham Asylum where he winds up working after the last episode. And they sort of hit it off because they're both two people who are trying to do the right thing in a city that's corrupt. And, like him, she's someone who doesn't really stand for bulls***. She's very pragmatic and isn't fazed by the craziness of Gotham. So they're pretty drawn to each other and they wind up teaming up.

On The Inside Of Arkham Asylum:

It's a little comic book-y, for sure. It's stylized, in the way that a lot of things are in the Gotham world. It's an insane asylum, so it's dark. It's very shadowed and creepy. I really loved the episode. It's a great introduction to my character, who's working in this crazy crazy place that's, of course, touched by Gotham's rampant corruption. There's a very big and dark underworld at play.

On Dr. Leslie Thompkins' Backstory:

Actually, I don't know. We haven't discovered that yet. They haven't told me too much so far. I kind of get things revealed to me slowly. But she's somebody who really stands up for what she believes in and has a strong set of morals. She's not a goody two-shoes or anything like that. I mean, she understands how things work in the city and how things sometimes have to get done. But I think she's also trying to live in a world that she wants to live in and can be proud of. She's not somebody who's too precious about things. She can get down and dirty, and she does. And she wants to be a part of whatever force can make the city a better place.

On Why A Role In Gotham Appealed To Her:

I really loved how the show looks and how it's written. And how it's stylized. And the actors who've been involved so far. It all drew me in. And it's a great character. I'm actually not too familiar with the comic book world, believe it or not. It's not something I grew up reading so it's just not that familiar to me. But I thought that the world that was created on this show was really intriguing. And that they did a really great job of making it accessible to everybody.

On Whether She'll Return As Dr. Wells' Computer "Gideon" In The Flash

I think so. I think that computer's sticking around! It's here to stay. So we'll see what winds up happening. But that's a fun one.

heller doesn't know who ras is

"It doesn't preclude him from joining Gotham, but now you're deep into Geoff Johns' territory, so you'd have to ask him. Where was Ra's al Ghul in this particular juncture in Batman's life? He was probably a teenager as well, with Mrs. al Ghul making him sandwiches and sending him off to Ghul school,"

Flash suffers from romantic cliche bs at times. Everything else is perfect. It has the right amount of comic bookyness

First of all. Constantine is top notch programming. NBC's handling and looseness with creator proves the best for creative television: Hannibal, The Blacklist & Constantine. All dark shows.

While I respect your opinion, I think there's a shred of Marvel bias.

Second: again, with opinions, Gotham is bad. Not bad good like in the 90s, but just poorly poorly done in many aspects. However, I can't seem to stop watching them, on my dvr, days later, messing with the Nielsen ratings.

@ComicsBordnAndBred

Its worth is greater than Flash's for sure given the fact its in a big universe while Flash only really has Arrow (so far) which also attributes to its mid-season cliffhanger having bigger significance.

The rest I'd have to give to Flash mostly because I feel that while it doesn't tie into any big cinematic universe, it manages to be a well done show and is most importantly engaging on its own terms.

AoS only ever became that now with the Inhumans and when the SHIELD twist happened. Rarely do I feel it manages to do anything interesting on its own.

@ekrolo2 I respect that. True shit. AOS at ti me has better acting and avoids romantic cliche bs. Flash suffers from that but everything else is perfeeeeccct

Lets look at the bright side, its still much better then the romance bs Arrow's been hammered to death with lately. That's the real intolerable shit right there

Grant is good but Miller has 100x more range and chops. It was just yesterday ppl were complaining it was an actor from Glee. Now they complain over someone whos made leaps and bounds proving himself acting wise and ppl still hate. Just shows fanboys like to complain just because lol.

Gotham improved a lot since the pilot. Its pretty good, but it'll always be the Batman show without Batman to me. Flash has been great from the get-go, enough said on that. I don't usually like to comment on the whole DC vs Marvel thing but Arrow will always be my favorite comic book show. AoS is good too but just have to give to Arrow, it reignited the comic book characters on TV thing that is so popular now. Guess I'm gonna have to get Netflix to watch DareDevil now, I wonder how many more subscribers they're gonna get when that show premieres.

@Comics I stopped watching AOS after the first episode of this season, because it was as horrible as the first season, but that's my opinion, but until I stop watching, there were romantic clichés, like you called them, between almost all the members of the group, I don't have any idea if they throw all of it away, but the first season was full of it.

How is AOS sticking to comics? In the classic run, Fury was the main star. There was no Centipede, flying cars, nor was Deathlock intertwined with Shield. I dont recall much to do with the Inhumans.
