Sara Lance's death in the Season 3 premiere of Arrow served as the shocking drive for many of the season's events, with the reveal that the character would feature in spin-off show Legends of Tomorrow conjuring an equal amount of questions -- especially from Sara Lance herself, Caity Lotz. The actress says the chance to play Sara once again (who will go by the alias of White Canary) came as an unexpected, but welcome, surprise. "When you play a character for so long, you become really attached to them," she tells Entertainment Weekly. "I was so sad when she died. It's nice to know that she gets to come back to life. You only get to do that in the comic book world."
Lotz explains that growing out of both Arrow and The Flash allows it to head into uncharted territory for superhero television, "I think the crossover potential is something that really excites me about the show," she says. "[It's] what I feel like sets it apart from all the other superhero shows." Lotz also touches upon the time travel elements in Legends of Tomorrow, explaining that "it's going to take us into a different world, not in the sense of another dimension. It's going to be a completely different vibe. That will be cool to think that if we're in a different time period, it's going to really shake up the show, really keep it exciting and different."
After Sara's death, her sister, Laurel Lance (played by Katie Cassidy), took up the Canary mantle and became a fresh new member of Team Arrow. The potential for the two sisters to meet once again is ripe, says Lotz, but would it be a mutual understanding, or tense conflict? She leans more towards conflict... "Sara and Laurel's relationship has always been a pretty complicated one," she explains. "I don't imagine that these recent events are going to make it any less complicated. I'm curious to see."
"Would they be fighting against each other?" Lotz continues. "Or would they be fighting on the same side? I don't think Sara would be into Laurel donning the mask and becoming Black Canary, just because she wouldn't have wanted her to have the same life that she had, that she wasn't so into all that darkness. I definitely hope that something happens, whether they fight together or against each other. It could be cool side by side. I'm into that." What do you guys think? Will we see the White Canary face off against the Black Canary, or will the two work side-by-side?
