Peacemaker's first three episodes (which are now streaming on HBO Max) reveal that Amanda Waller has commissioned a secret task force to deal with an alien threat to Earth known only as "Project Butterfly." Christopher Smith has been roped in alongside some familiar faces from The Suicide Squad, not to mention a couple of intriguing newcomers.
One of those is Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo, an obvious rookie who doesn't really seem to know what she's doing. However, it's soon revealed that Adebayo is Amanda Waller's daughter, and the villainous leader of A.R.G.U.S. makes a surprise cameo appearance via video chat!
While we see a slightly softer side to Waller (she clearly cares about her daughter), it's later revealed that after both Adebayo and her wife lost their jobs, Amanda jumped at the chance to coax her daughter into following in her footsteps. There's also an interesting subplot about Waller wanting Adebayo to plant a diary in Peacemaker's trailer, so time will tell what that's all about.
Waller is not the only DC Comics villain who shows up here. Peacemaker reveals that Smith's abusive father, Auggie, is the supervillain known as the White Dragon. Various white supremacists have held that mantle over the years, but this version appears to be taking inspiration from William Heller, a character created by Suicide Squad writer John Ostrander and artist Luke McDonnell.
White Dragon isn't Peacemaker's father in the comic books, but his dad was a Nazi so this isn't too much of a departure from the source material. Chris' dynamic with this villain promises to be one of the most compelling elements of this series, and it will clearly continue to play out over the coming weeks.
