The Hollywood Reporter has learned that 2x Primetime Emmy-winner Jon Cryer has been cast as the iconic DC Comics villain Lex Luthor in the CW's hit superhero series, Supergirl

The highly sought-after Cryer will debut as Luthor in episode fifteen, which is currently slated to air in Spring 2019, and will appear in a recurring capacity throughout the back half of season four. Further details remain unavailable, but we can imagine he'll cause some major headaches for our titular heroine (Melissa Benoist) as well as his younger sister Lena (Katie McGrath).

"We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor. Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family." said executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller in a statement, expressing their excitement.

Cryer is best known for portraying Alan Harper on the long-running CBS comedy Two and a Half Men, where he starred opposite Charlie Sheen, Angus T. Jones, Conchata Ferrell, and later, Ashton Kutcher. He was the only cast member to appear in all 262 episodes. Additionally, Cryer also has a brief history with DC Comics, having played Lenny Luthor in 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and more recently, voicing Felix Faust on Justice League Action.

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter

Boldest casting ever done in the Arrowverse/DC TV Multiverse easily and the most unexpected.

But bring it on.
