The Flash: Jesse L. Martin Reportedly Returning To The Show After Medical Leave

The Flash has been missing Joe West for the majority of Season 5 so far, due to actor Jesse L. Martin's medical leave. Fortunately, that's a thing in the past, as he's set to come back to Team Flash soon.

Joe West has been one heck of a staple throughout his time in The Flash. Brilliantly portrayed by Jesse L. Martin, he unfortunately had to leave the show due to a back problem. Fans were worried why his character was sitting down for the majority of the start in season 5, and why he didn't seem the same. Thankfully, he's gotten the time he needed off, and TVLine reports that he should be back in Central City by episode 15.

“There’s an explanation, and then there’s another sort of thing down the line that will give more explanation as to why [Joe] was gone for so long,” showrunner Todd Helbing stated. He continued,“I’ll just say there’s some technology that S.T.A.R. Labs has [via which] he’s gone and he’s not gone at the same time."

Really good news to hear. The show isn't the same without him. With Barry and his team trying to take down Cicada, it's apparent Joe couldn't have returned at a better time.

The Flash runs back with new episodes on January 15th.

Good to hear that! He seems like a good dude, and Joe was one of my favourite characters back when I still watched (esp S1).

Glad to hear he is back to full strength. He's definitely one of my favorite characters (I'm a season behind though).

I remember hearing something about Martin having to film all his scenes in the Flash sitting down because his back pain was so bad?

That sucks, man. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. That's scary territory.

@L0RDbuckethead - Oh I know the pain alright to some degree mate. I have the occasional to frequent Sciatica issue and when it's playing up the pain in unbearable when you're trying to just get out of bed, going to the shithouse too, and walking if that's even possible. I've been bed ridden for quite a few days last year because of this damn thing. I'd rather be scuba diving which is my job and not in sitting in my bed for days

@Ace101 - I'm sorry to hear that man, I can't imagine what that feels like. Health is important first and foremost though. Definitely listen to your chiropractor / medical professional. Back injuries are no joke.

@L0RDbuckethead - Thanks man. I hope youd never find out haha. Yeah it's just been over the past two years for me aye. Well I managed to figure out that my back issues was caused by my feet being over pronated so I bought new shoes with new insoles and it's been helping I'm sure. Haven't had any issues for the past few months.

@Ace101 - Yeah, in-soles can make a word of difference. I have really flat feet and still have to wear in-soles when I play basketball or soccer.

Honestly I kind of forgot he had left. His absence really hasn't been felt in my opinion.
