The first trailer for season three of Titans is expected to arrive a little later today, but in the meantime, we have a new look at the series courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
The site reports that the first three episodes will all debut at the same time on HBO Max on August 12, with subsequent instalments launching every Thursday. That's exciting news, of course, and so too are these shots of Savannah Welch as Barbara Gordon and Vincent Kartheiser as Dr. Jonathan Crane.
"Think Hannibal Lecter," showrunner Greg Walker says of the latter. "He's been given the opportunity to opine on ways to stop villains, and a villain breaks out in Gotham and it draws [Dick Grayson] to work with him."
As for what we can expect from the former Batgirl turned Gotham City Commissioner, he adds: "Barbara's feeling is that the legacy of Bruce and Jim has been this idea that she thinks is antiquated and inefficient: the God syndrome, meaning that superheroes create the situation where they're the heroes. They drop in on a situation, solve it, and then they leave."
"[She] feels that basically disempowers people from solving their own problems and that the people of Gotham need to figure out how to solve their own problems and not be passive victims waiting for a superhero to save the day."
Between this and the debut of Red Hood, there's certainly going to be a lot happening in season three of Titans, and it should be interesting to see how the series manages to balance all those different elements. Fans have been disappointed by certain aspects of the show in the past, but with so much from the comic books finding its way into this batch of episodes, it should be a fun ride.
