GAME OF THRONES Showrunners Wish They'd Done ONE Thing Differently... But It's Nothing You'll Expect

How many things would you change about HBO's Game of Thrones if you had the chance? Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss wish they'd done one thing differently...

We're sure there are numerous things Game of Thrones fans would have changed about the series, but the showrunners only have one, and it is definitely nothing you'll expect.

HBO's fantasy drama series became a worldwide phenomenon over the course of its 8-season run, with millions of people around the world tuning in every week to catch up with their favorite characters - and find out if they'd make it to the end credits.

As the show progressed, however, a lot of viewers felt that the quality began to dip, and by the time the much-discussed final season rolled around, it's probably fair to say that the majority of fans had some major issues with how the story was playing out.

The most heavily-criticized elements were almost certainly Daenerys Targaryen's heel turn and subsequent death at the hands of Jon Snow and Bran Stark ending up on the Iron Throne, but there were numerous smaller issues with specific character arcs and the overall plot.

During a new interview with THR, David Benioff and Dan Weiss were asked if there's anything they wish they'd done differently with the show. There was one thing... but you will never guess what it is.

“One thing I know I wish we could have done is there’s the character Mord the Jailer,” Benioff said. “It was a mistake not bringing Mord the Jailer back into it,” Weiss adds. “We always talked about doing it.”

“And we had the scene for it. There’s a scene set in a tavern. Was it Brienne or The Hound?” Weiss continued. “But we realized too late that Mord could have owned the tavern. We could have had that actor in the background acting exactly the way he did as a jailer, except now as a small-business owner. It was just such an obvious, no-brainer, day-after idea.”

Just in case you don't recall Mord, he was the brutish jailer who tormented Tyrion in the Sky Cells in season one. "The Imp" promised to reward him if he took a message to Lady Arryn, which he did, and Tyrion tossed him a bag of gold as he was leaving ("a Lannister always pays his debts").

While bringing Mord back for this scene does sound like it would have been fun, we find it hard to believe this would be the only thing Weiss and Benioff would change. Then again, it's hardly surprising that they didn't bring up anything more substantial, essentially admitting that they made mistakes with the narrative.

You can check out the scene in question in the player below.

"Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for a millennia."
