Yesterday we received official confirmation that HBO had renewed Game Of Thrones for a third season, but aside from that no other details were released. Now the author of the novels on which the show is based, George R.R Martin, has taken to his blog to provide fans with a bit more info..
Yes, it's official.
HBO has ordered a third season of GAME OF THRONES.
Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.
I'll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title "Autumn Storms."
So ten episodes yet again, and as many fans predicted it seems the third book will indeed be split into two seasons. Kind of! You see we also have some quotes from the show's producers (via
Screenrant), D. B. Weiss and David Benioff, who reveal that they are not necessarily taking a "one book per season" approach, and we may well see things from the later books in the series earlier than expected..
Well… “A Storm of Swords” is too long to fit in a single season. And as readers know, “A Feast for Crows” and “A Dance with Dragons” takes place during roughly the same time frame, so we’ll have to fold those together. The plan, if we’re lucky enough to be given the opportunity to see it through, is to use as many seasons as we need to tell the story as a whole, to do justice to George’s entire opus.
We’re not looking at our series as a book-by-book adaptation so much as an adaptation of George’s entire saga. In other words, in our minds season two is not “A Clash of Kings.” It is the second season of our adaptation of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
