Twitter Buzz: Game of Thrones Season 2 Casting News

An actor from the canceled STARZ show Camelot has revealed some interesting casting news about HBO's Game of Thrones. Really opens up the possibility of an A-lister joining the show in Season 2.

British actor Clive Standen, who most recently played Sir Gawain in Starz’s now defunct Camelot, has let slip via Twitter that he has heard the names of three actors that will be added to the Game of Thrones cast for season two. He calls the news “MASSIVE” and reveals that one of the 3 appeared with him on Camelot, while another appeared in some other Arthurian film or TV show.

While I could care less about someone from STARZ's Camelot being cast in the show, it's the second tweet that gets me excited. Based on that statement and the fact that he described the news as MASSIVE CASTING NEWS could we be looking at either Richard Gere [First Knight], Clive Owen [King Arthur], or maybe...gasp....Sean Connery [First Knight]?

Game of Thrones is an American medieval fantasy television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. The series is based on author George R. R. Martin's best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of seven planned fantasy novels, the first of which is called A Game of Thrones. The series debuted in the U.S. on April 17, 2011. Game of Thrones has been extremely well received, and has garnered a loyal fanbase. The series was picked up for a second season on April 19, 2011, two days after its premiere.

@Hellsing He says the massive star is someone from a Camelot show/movie that's not the one from STARZ, so it can't be them.

They should turn the phase "Winter is Coming" into a drinking game. Everyone would lose. Anyway, isn't Sean Connery retired?

Arthurian could be a number of movies or shows. Liam Neeson...anybody. As for the Camelot show, I think a good bet would be Sean Pertwee, maybe even as Stanis. Eva Green would make a good Melisandre as well.
I can't believe Sean Connery was suggested lmao you are an idiot.

I'd wager that it's Fiennes for the role of Stannis or Davos.

As for the 'other' actor; impossible to say without knowing which part they're up for but there are a lot of big names associated with the various Arthurian legend films. For example, Excalibur (1981) features Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson and Prof. X himself, Patrick Stewart.

...But wouldn't it be awesome if it were John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones or Michael Palin. ;)

Its probably Anthony Head from Arthur (BBC) or maybe Ray Stevenson/Hugh Dancy/Til Schweiger from that King Arthur movie with Owen.
Joseph Fiennes/Eva Green/james Purefoy from Camelot...

Probably Ioan Gruffud. Long time since i've heard of that guy, he sure needs the attention.

@Warrior

Unfortunately, Purefoy is not in the running. Just so happens that AICN posted an interview a few days back and while he expressed his love for GoT, it looks like he's currently busy with other projects.

Too bad because he'd be great in any of several roles.
