SECRET INVASION Star Emilia Clarke Has Written A New Comic Called M.O.M. - Check Out A Preview

There's a new Image Comics series on the way called M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, and it was co-written by none other than Game of Thrones alum and recent Secret Invasion cast addition, Emilia Clarke!

Following last night's news that Emilia Clarke has joined the cast of Marvel's Secret Invasion Disney+ series, EW has announced that the Game of Thrones star also has a new Image Comics miniseries on the way.

Co-written by Clarke and Marguerite Bennett (Angela, Bombshells), M.O.M.: Mother of Madness follows a single parent named Maya who gains superpowers and uses them to take on a secret cabal of human traffickers. The twist? Those powers only manifest themselves... at a certain time of the month!

Clarke explains that the genesis of the idea began as a joke.

"About three years ago, I was in a car with a bunch of friends and was like, 'Hey, guys, wouldn't it be really funny if…' And then I woke up the next day and was like, 'That would be funny. That would be f---ing cool. Why not?'"

"She can do all of these wicked things, but they all come from the fact that she is a woman who has a menstrual cycle," Clarke says of her main character. "I thought it would be cool to have all the things that women don't like about themselves, flip that, and make those the things that make her superhuman."

M.O.M. has an all-female creative team behind it, including illustrator Leila Leiz, contributor Isobel Richardson, and cover artist Jo Ratcliffe. The first issue is set to hit shelves on July 21, and you can check out the cover and a couple of preview pages below.

This is ripe for an adaptation soon. Could easily see this as a raunchy cartoon. Its a funny premise.

Looks like they found a way to keep the future-satire elements from being too cliche. I like it. It's observational.

Marguerite Bennett is sooo good.

I gotta say though, Joss Whedon beat them to that menstrual cycle thing in 1992.

Hilarious idea... I could be wrong but pretty sure that the feminist movement / LGBTQ+ community will hate it and eat it for their midnight snacks.

Sounds fun and the art looks good! Let’s hope this a success for muh Queen.
She has a lot of time left on the clock, but it’s interesting that she could lose her powers when menopause hits so it gives her a certain urgency to actively use them for good while she still can. Not that any of that will play off here as she’s just 30, but it’s an interesting idea to follow if it’s a long run or they time-skip.

Anyone else remembers the comic were all menstruation people turned into big killer cats during their period, then the government decided the way to deal with it was spiked *the drinking water supply* with hormone inhibitors and it actually worked without any adverse effect to the whole population? Women also still transformed and killed people anyway, because they stopped drinking water altogether or something(?).
