Paramount is picking up on The Watchmen, the 1986 Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons' maxi-series about a super-hero team that implodes, with Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) set to direct, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

X-Men's David Hayter will write the script. Here's how the trade described the concept: "It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes."
