"Watchmen" Dominates On DVD

It was a good week to be an 80s throwback modern classic comic book movie!

According to "The Hollywood Reporter," "Watchmen" earned a clean sweep on the DVD charts, taking the DVD sales, rentals, and Blu-ray sales crown in its first week in release.

The high-powered disc did have some competition in the fellow new release "Coraline," which finished in second place in all three charts in its week. Holdover "Knowing" held strong in third place in all three charts for the week.

"Watchmen" sold an impressive 36% of its total take in the BD format. While "Coraline" took in 18% of its haul in the high-def format, and "Knowing" in its third week in release still took in 17% of its third week gross in the 1080p format.

I think most of us expected "Watchmen" to make its mark on home viewing sales. At theaters it suffered for its R rating, long run time, and short attention span of Joe public! I don't believe good box office means good movie. But in this instance I really hope "Watchmen" makes a heap load of money. Not so much as we will see a sequel(at least i hope not!) but so studios will think twice before dismissing a project with some bite in the future.

Great watchmen in the big screen, Watchmen in the comicbook is still greater, way better ..... a mini series like a "band of brother" thingy would be awsome !

Zach Snyder and the other creators of Watchmen delivered with their home release immediately while certain other filmmakers continue to disappoint. Good example...Quentin Tarantino. Why is there no director's cut of Kill Bill or full theatrical cut of Grindhouse with commentary? All filmmakers have got to realize that the home release is where their movies truly have life.

Reck79, the reason there is no director's cut of kill bill or grindhouse is because directors like Rodriguez and Tarantino are definitive in their visions. What you see is what you get with them. The cut they give you is the cut they want and think is right for the film. there is no such thing as a deleted scene with those guys, if it's not shown, it never happened unlike films like transformers where you don't know barricade is actually dead until you see a deleted scene. ( i read that somewhere his death was filmed but not shown.)

fotc i dont think you realize what watchmen is, def doesnt sound like you read the book because if u did u would prob love this movie as much as everyone else did. the filmmakers respected the source material and new the book was amazing and wanted to translate it on film so people who dident read the book could experience a fantastic storyline and plot development, this movie unlike other superhero movies did not have 70 years of comics to flip threw and create a good story, watchmen was 1 amazing book and they did nothing but respect that when they made this movie, its not just about the r ratings and running time they coulda made it shorter and cleaner but thats not what the book, snyder did an amazing job and i can only dream of seeing something i love translated so well every again.

I don't bother wasting $30 to buy a movie i'll watch once and then watch again maybe a couple years later, till movies are sold at a reasonable price or made available to download legally i'll stick to grabbing from torrents or usenet. Already have this in x264 1080p...

Leee and Keven- Come on, guys. Some people just didnt like the movie. Jesus. While I dont agree with Foct's assessment (I thought it was pretty damn good), is it really that hard to see why people wouldnt like it? Imagine you are a comic fan who didnt read the comics and had the connection to the characters we did. They may like the intricate plot, character development, and interesting take on super-heros that Watchmen fans adore. They may not like the fact that its long, heavy-handed and sparse with action.

And besides... you might want to be careful with your veneration. You might make Alan Moore angry. He knows magic and, if you really rile the old coot up, he can sick his snake god on you ;)

Keven,
I haven't posted in a while but I was reading this thread and laughing my ass off at your blatant asshole attitude so I thought I'd say hello. I miss making fun of Terminator "know-it-alls" with you. Anyway, I'm enjoying the show.
