One of the best shows on TV returned tonight in a crazy, timeline jumping episode. The premiere for the second season of
Westworld, "Journey Into Night," revealed an island in chaos (yes, the parks occur on an island!). In the 'past' timeline that occurs immediately following the season 1 finale, Dolores and Teddy are making their way to the valley beyond, taking pleasure in killing and tormenting human guests along the way. While Teddy seems uncertain about all of the killing, he affirms his love for Dolores, who tells him he is the one constant she has always had.
Hale and Bernard meanwhile team-up in trying to escape the rogue hosts. She takes Bernard, who is seemingly malfunctioning, to a secret Delos outpost where we are introduced to drone hosts that conduct experiments on the parks' hosts. Bernard learns that his head is suffering a critical failure and, in order to delay his death, he injects host cerebral fluid into his own head. Hale is told that help will not arrive until she tracks down Peter Abernathy.
Maeve enlists the help of Lee Sizemore in tracking down her daughter and reconnects with Hector Escaton. Elsewhere, William once again becomes the Man in Black, relishing in the fact that he can begin to have some fun now that there are real stakes in the park. He encounters the android of a young Ford, who informs the MiB that having solved "the maze," he has begun a new game desgined expressly by Ford for him. In order to solve this next stage of the game, he must find "the door."
With no one in control, Delos sends in a special forces team to begin eliminating rogue hosts and retake the island. Bernard and Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) are reunited in a timeline that occurs 2 weeks after the events of the season 1 finale, joining Karl Strand (Gustaf Skarsgård) and his soldiers in an effort to determine what went wrong. As they travel across Westworld, they discover nothing but carnage in a system clearly in disarray, even finding the body of a tiger.
In the new promo for episode 2, titled "Reunion," we begin to learn what the real purpose of the parks are. We see the return of a young William (Jimmi Simpson), who teases an answer to a question that no one has ever dreamed of asking. Other parks are revealed, with Maeve visiting Shogun World and Bernard and Dolores in what could be Future World, where we see the return of Logan. Also check out a couple promotional images for "Reunion," below.
