Marvel's AGENT CARTER Show Gets A Pair Of Writers

So, the plot thickens... Or just the likeliness that Marvel and ABC are quietly developing a TV series based on Hayley Atwell's character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with writers now on board.

Now according to the ever-reliable Deadline, Marvel and ABC Studios have nabbed writers for the all but confirmed Agent Carter television series. "I’ve learned that Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have quietly boarded," reveals the site. The female duo, who created the ABC series Reaper and is currently developing another ABC show, Resurrection, will also executive produce Agent Carter under their current deal with the Disney-owned TV studio. Based on the Peggy Carter character played by English actress Hayley Atwell in the Captain America movies and an Iron Man 3 Blu-ray short film of the same name, which almost serves as its TV pilot, Agent Carter is rumored to be out by the end of the year after Marvel/ABC wrap their first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
The show is also said to be "Marvel’s major project of 2014," besides The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy of course, and "it will be a big budget production." What do you think?

@ MrCBM

I am actually excited to see this, imagine seeing the official creation of Shield and them fighting the growing threat known as HYDRA.

As long as it's good, I'm ok with it.

I don't know, it could be cool.

They should have a young Nick Fury as a supporting character.

I like this idea! Could you imagine Peggy, Howard Stark, Dum Dum, and a young Hank Pym as your cast? That would be awesome!

@MrCBM56 A young Fury would be great. I want a couple of flashbacks from Cap in there as well. Not too overload though.

Unless they are providing background histories for current MCU, this isn't needed.

My dream would be to see more of Prof Horton's android.
And,a European "Invaders" team.

I'm more excited for this than I ever was for AoS.

At last some 40's & 50's action - all those characters that would never have appeared in the contemporary universe are gonna get some love.

Submariner?
The Original Human Torch???
Howling Commandos??
The Invaders???

Even an elderly Two-Gun Kid?????

Time to research those Timely Comics!

Remember when Feige was talking about a one-shot with Nick and Dum Dum on a mission, and Dum Dum bites into an orange and a bit of the juice gets in Nick's eye, so he puts a patch on (obviously not permanently)?

They should work that into the show.
NovaCorpsFan
NovaCorpsFan - 1/17/2014, 7:57 AM
Yeah, they could do Union Jack, Human Torch. They could even deal with the guy that impersonated Cap. What was his name?
Orphix

Well there are still a few members of the HC's that haven't shown up yet.

And Kazar was knocking around then.

Howard Stark

Young Nick Fury

^The four leads right there

They should do the Squadron Supreme in the 50's on this show!

The scene between Dum Dum Dugan and Howard Stark at the end of the Agent Carter one-shot is reason enough to make this. 50s action adventure pulp on top? The proverbial cherry. The.. you know.. one of them.

I don't see this show working. Look at what a struggle AoS has been to get going. Why the push for this show that no one is excited about?

"Why the push for this show that no one is excited about?"

Probably because it's an exciting and interesting pitch for a show to general audiences. Marvel's TV stuff isn't pandering fan service. It's not a cameo conveyor belt. This is a potentially hot period spy show with a cool female lead and a nice cast of supporting characters.

The problem with AoS was that it gave people the false hope that it WOULD be a cameo conveyor belt type show. I think people are wiser now.

Even if it makes it all the way to a completed pilot, it won't get past that. A 1950s period action show with special effects? The suits will deem it too expensive.

GinjaNinja - 1/17/2014, 8:40 AM
They better show a LOT of CBM influences. Android human torch, UNION JACK IN UNIFORM! Howling commandos. Otherwise this will suck.

Characters that need TV shows.

Punisher, Blade, Moonknight. That's not counting the netflix shows. So this better be a good film. Also please have captain Britain in this thing.

@evyllsummer

Admittedly - could be pricey. Period pieces always are before you even crank up a camera.

@beto

For Michael Douglas to be around right after WW2, he would have to be 90+ in the Ant-Man movie.

He's supposed to be a hero from the 60's, Carter would be pushing 50 by then. Pym won't be in it.

With A couple new female led shows becoming popular and the explosion of comic book based movies and shows, I think Disney/Marvel are trying to cash in on these growing trends. They basically kill two birds with one stone...

And seriously guys... Wouldn't you want to see smoking hot Haley Atwell kicking some ass with Howard Stark and a young nick fury?!?! Sprinkle in some captain America cameos, or mentions, dum dum Dugan and the Howling Comadoes as her "sidekicks".

I think this done right as a period piece with Haley always a step ahead of her male peers at shield, or whatever it's called back then and this could be solid.

Btw I think shield tv show is really starting to find its footing. The show has become more serious and less cliche and that has to continue to keep the show moving in the right direction....

beto - 1/17/2014, 8:50 AM
@Havenless I think MIchael could pull out a 90 yr old.... besides how old is HOward STark supposed to be there?

the fact alone that agents of shield is not doing good in the ratings, this show should not be made. Its a complete waste of time. Its not gonna pull enough views to keep it on.
