Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had an interesting 4-year run. It started off with strong ratings, but a lackluster response from fans. As the show progressed, it started to gain higher critical acclaim, but a decline in ratings that has not stopped since and as it turns out, ABC would have brought down the axe on the Marvel drama after the conclusion of its 4th season had Disney not intervened.

According to a new report from Variety, which goes into detail on the new television season at ABC, we've learned that not only has there been some friction between Marvel and
ABC,
but that ABC renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. only after a mandate came down from Disney to renew the show. "Inhumans has not been the only source of friction between ABC and Marvel. Earlier this year, the mandate came down from Disney for ABC to renew its other Marvel drama, "Agents of SHIELD", despite the desire by some at the network to end the series after four seasons."

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is slated to return for its 5th season after Marvel's latest entry in its growing line of shows, The Inhumans, which has received terrible reviews thus far, concludes its 8-episode run.

What do you think about this revelation? Are you happy to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. live on? Are you worried about the growing tensions between Marvel and ABC? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments below!

I'm glad Disney forced them to continue it. It's one of the best comic book shows on TV.

I'd say let it run 6 or 7 seasons.

@Nightwing1015 - I love the show but i'd be satisfied if the 5th was its final season

@Nightwing1015 - just curious, but why 7 or 6 seasons? why can't this be the law and order of comic shows ? Good premise and if done right they can pull it off. It's a good show.

@Nightwing1015 - This fifth season should be the final season.

@four20smoke - I think quite a few shows struggle remaining interesting past 7 seasons. AOS could go continue past it but I think there's only so many stories you can tell with the shows premise. I'd also like to see a resolution to Coulson's story.

@Nightwing1015 - but it's costing ABC money in sponsors. What good is that to stakeholders?

@dnno1 - I'm not saying stakeholders should approve. I'm just saying as a fan I'm glad we'll get at least one final season.

@BlackBeltJones - I remember seeing that episode when it aired. I lost it. Really fvcking funny. I know a number of former Disney animators personally, so it really was a hoot.

I thought Inhumans was the only reason it got renewed. To act as a bridge. I'm guessing this will be AoS's final season tho.
