AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Bill Paxton On The Last Few Episodes Of Season One

Bill Paxton finally became a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s recurring character Agent Garrett. In an interview at WonderCon, he teased the final episodes of the first season...

Ever since his character was expanded upon after his first appearance in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Bill Paxton's John Garrett has become a fan favorite recurring character for many people. While some fans may know him as the character introduced in Frank Miller/Bill Sienkiewicz 1986 miniseries Elektra: Assassin, it wasn't really until he was introduced in the fourteenth episode that fans learned who this guy is. But the fact that he is played by the talented Bill Paxton is enough to get into the character for reasons other than being a character from the comics. At this week's WonderCon, the actor was asked a few questions about the show. Mainly, he was asked if the character and his story became much bigger than he expected, because everyone who saw the recent episodes of the show will know that is role is indeed much bigger than most/all of us expected. "It did," he said. "They started writing for me and I knew it was penciled in where it was possibly going and I’m having so much fun now that they’ve unmasked Garrett and his true nature has come out. I’ve got three more episodes and they’re pretty cool. There’s a great episode that really deals with Ward, how he ended up almost like my surrogate son and also a little bit about where I came from, why I tick the way I do. Then of course we’re all coming in for the season finale." He was also asked if his deal with Marvel would allow him to appear in a future Marvel film if they ever needed him in one of their movies. He said "I would like to think so. I would love to think so. I really enjoyed working with Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa [Tancharoen] who’s the creators, and Jeff Bell the show runner, and Jeph Loeb. It’s been a great group of guys." He finally responded to the interviewer who made a comment on his last answer saying it seemed reasonable for him to appear in Age of Ultron seeing as how actors that appeared in some of Marvel's movies made appearances in the show (such as Coulson, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Agent Sitwell). All he said was "From your lips..."

Bill is the man, he has been a fresh of breath air on the show even though the last two episodes his acting was a little corny.

He has been very good, I really like him in the show. And I still don't believe that he is the real Clairvoyant, he's probably just working for him... It's all part of a plan or something.

Last episode was meh for me, him and Ward relationship seemed forced IMO.

My only question is why have they not officially announced season 2? I wonder if they are still waiting to see how the ratings all shake out for the next several weeks.

Paxton is one of the major reasons I've completely flipped on this show. I've never felt he has much range as an actor, and the style of this show has really set him loose on serious corn. I just cannot buy him as a heavy. The other reason is how predictable all the twists and turns are. This show has always been predictable, and I was always fine with that. But pretending that it isn't is a really bad move for the writers/producers, so the last few episodes weren't nearly as epic for me as they apparently were for many others.

It's funny to me how I stuck with this show, and mildly enjoyed it without complaint right up until the point where they managed to get all the haters to do 180's. Now I'm one of those who doesn't enjoy the show anymore. I'm really hoping Paxton is killed off, and a new, more formidable villain is introduced in the last moments of the finale. Otherwise, I'll most likely delete it from my DVR listing.

Bill was awesome at WonderCon. The crowd ate it up when he subtly said Hail Hydra during the Edge Of Tomorrow panel.

I agree with many peoples speculations about Paxton not actually being "the Clairvoyant"

I'm still holding out for a season finale cliffhanger that reveals THE LEADER being held in Shield custody or a test tube-like lab facility ...Maybe showing that even while sedated, Leader's mind is active and inadvertently manipulating ALL of Shield. (Good and hydra sleeper agents) he may have even been the one who REALLY brought about the end SHIELD, just to facilitate an escape for him and Abomination....

Sounds good to me at least!

@xfan320

I keep assuming he will be revealed to not be THE clairvoyant as well, since we DO have a few more episodes and they'll surely drop some more bombs. It's just getting difficult for me to care as much.

I also feel they will never have Abomination on this show. Animating him will probably eat up their entire budget for the season, but also the show will have nods and cameos from non-CG movie characters, but the villains etc will most likely always be strictly part of this show. That's why Abomination wasn't pulled out of the fridge, but Graviton was. Yes, this show ties in with the movies and what not, but even the Cap 2 tie-in stuff, which WAS major, at least plotwise...still didn't tie in THAT much. I had kinda expected to see a different perspective on the whole Triskelion situation in Cap 2, with Simmons etc running around as the building is being demolished. Instead, we were at a different location with lots of things happening peripherally in sets that are a notch above the 60's Star Trek. And yeah, I'm a jerk for knocking the sets since that's just not a big deal, but I'm trying to make a point about how limited this show is not only in what they can show, but also what they can tell.

Leader won't ever show up either, unfortunately. But I'm sure Blizzard will come back. And as obvious as it is for Zola to be the clairvoyant, I've lost hope that it's at all the case. It'll be someone in house, because as tied in with the movies as this show is, it also will always manage to stand somewhat on its own. The villains are a major factor in that. Paxton, the rich snobby guy, the chick in the dress, and Deathlok etc. Even when an Asgardian villain showed up, it's someone pretty minor because Enchantress is someone they might use in the movies. They may not, but I'm sure the studio wanted her held back in case they do use her.

I'm hella mad they haven't brought Wondercon back to my city. Southern Cal already has Comic-Com.

I'm a big fan of Paxton. Always have been. When he came onto to the show I knew it would increase story depth and make the show better. I'm hoping that he's not the clairoyant and Arnim Zola really is.

Any flashback sequences or anything from early Hydra stuff needs to have Agent Garret in it. he's one of the best defined turncoats thus far. Sitwell gets a lot of camera time but he isn't a complete character. Garrett is. If there's one this that show should be lauded for it's expanding characters that got small references, barely any background in 1 comic series, and really expanding them. Koenig, Garret, Hand, and now with villains like Gravitonium, Blackout, and Blizzard.

@yoss- it's been announced that AOS is coming back, also the CA-TWS tie in episode was like the highest rated show on ON Demand ABC ever. So year the thing killing AOS is it's time slot. it should be on earlier on the weekend not a random time on a tuesday. It's also not tied into any other shows like it. Next season it will open with Peggy Carter Agent of shield followed by Agents of shield. and Marvel hopes in 3 season It will be Peggy Carter, The Defenders, and then Agents of Shield an entire night of Marvel action, all tieing into the films.

I'm not sure if Garret is really the clairvoyant or not, if he isn't and it's a surprise character than cool, if he's not then that's fine all the same. I just can't wait to see how this show is about to pan out, the last few episodes have been excellent, I genuinely like this show and the characters now. Paxton has done a great job as Garret, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him cameo in one of the future movies (assuming he doesn't die in the season finale). I don't understand the people "wanting" the show to get cancelled. If you dislike the show so much, just don't watch it, it's that simple. There's a growing fanbase of people who enjoy watching this show that allows us to visit the MCU every week while waiting in between movies, so wishing for it to be cancelled is just pure hatred. I think a season 2 is pretty much going to happen though, especially now that the show is starting to garner more acclaim.

@Trickwil

The last I heard, they're actually hoping to air a 13 episode season of Agent Carter after AOS's second season mid-season finale, to fill the time during the winter hiatus.

@mekaticox-The people that read Avengers comix only or Marvel Cosmic keep expecting regular human agents of shield to be fighting these Avengers or Cap villains. it doesn't make sense. They are regular low level heroes they will be fighting de powered low level villains. Like Dethlok or Agent Garrett.
