At the end of the season, Raina was the character I was mostly curious about. There is something about her, I don't know what yet, but I have a theory. And it ties neatly in with the Spiderwoman theory that has been going around on the internet. I know Joss Whedon created the main characters from scratch for the show, but we also know that Raina and Skye share a bond.
Also, what the f*** is it with the flowers?
I think that Raina has pheromone powers. She hasn't exhibited any other abilities (except maybe her knowledge of chemistry and biology). She has an uncanny way to make people trust and talk to her. I think the flower dressess are a way to focus people's minds, and then she can direct her pheromones to them.
She has managed to convince people to sign up for the Centipede Project, and she gets people to trust her like: Chan Ho Yin, Myles Lydon, Dr Debbie, Edison Po, Coulson, Ward, Quinn, and little Ace. I might have missed a few others.
I think that Raina knows about her ability and can actively direct it, whereas Skye doesn't know about hers yet and passively releases her own pheromones when she wants to connect with someone. At the start of the series, she convinced most of the SHIELD field team to trust her without trying too hard, and really connected to Good Ward (though I never really got that). She obviously also connected with Myles, and then Mike Peterson and Hanna Hutchins just trusted her without reason. I think Skye's powers work when she's being sincere, that may be why May came to like her as the series went on. She also connected with Ian Quinn and Donnie Gill and even Eric Koenig, although I don't know how that works with an LMD. And she was over to convince Evil Ward of her feelings for him at first.
I think Raina saw a genetic marker in Skye's blood/DNA that they share, so it would not be too obvious or alarming to someone like Simmons, but Raina was obviously looking for these kind of markers. I don't think they are alien, or, again, Simmons would've picked up on this. The GH325 remains the big question here, but I really think that it was a serum derived from the alien blood, but only the component that allowed for cellular regeneration. So even if the alien was Kree, Gnobian or whatever, I don't think it's that important. Like Simmons said, all I know is that it worked.
The monsters.
I am not sure what this means, but again, I have a theory.
In the first Hulk movie, Bruce Banner's parents did experiments on themselves and/or their baby. I don't remember exactly how that terrible movie went, but I'm not going to watch it again just to make sure. We know that there are cults who do things to people and little kids in the MCU, and The Cavalry helped bring down one of them. What if these people experimented on baby girls (two of them: Raina and Skye) and some Chinese villagers tried to rescue at least one of the babies and died in the process. This means that, yes, these people were monsters for what they did, but not real monsters. This also ties into the Spderwoman thing, because her father also experimented on her, if I remember correctly.
If Raina grew up inside this cult, and Skye escaped, this explains why Raina is not afraid of dangerous people. And Skye is.
Just my theory, but one I like.
